I have some old cemeteries that need a lot of cleaning up, The town highway dept. does a good job mowing and trimming, but there are a lot of stones that are either broken or tipped over and they are heavy. They are located in a place that a backhoe or any other heavy piece of equipment can't get to. How can I upright these stones?? Also what type of mortar works best on repairing Marble?? Some stones have so much moss, fungus etc. on them that they are hard to read,I know that rubbing them off is a no no,But I have seen some old stones that have wire wrapped around the top also some with metal pipe straps around the top.Is this an old trick to cause some type of oxidation that cleans them off naturally with rain water?? Because these stones seem to be in nice shape. Any helpful hints would be appreciated.
