I am so excited. I think I may have broken through with the mystery of Deyo Davis. I was looking through the census of Rosendale in 1850 and found a Cornelius Davis married to Sarah Davis and there were about 4 children. I found this same family in the 1855 census of Rosendale, but no Cornelius. There were a couple of children added on also, one of which could be my great great grandmother, Emma Jane DAVIS. There was listed in the 1855 census an Emah who was 2. My Emma Jane should have been 5, but they could have made a mistake. My question is this: Could the name Deyo be a shortened name for Cornelius, or perhaps even a nickname? There is no Deyo DAVIS listed anywhere that I can find. Even the DAVISCLEARINGHOUSE doesn't have his name listed ( except for what I sent in). Any thoughts on this mystery would be greatly appreciated.
