Readers, The deeds that have been appearing in the Ulster newsletter contain names that may be of interest to you. I have transcribed several land deeds for my 5xGGF, Samuel Knapp, which contain some more names of this area, and I thought I would excerpt them for the same purpose. Tom Cornell Samuel Knap Land Sale to Jesse Gustin - 5 April 1806 All that certain lot or parcel of Land lying and being in the town afforesaid near Pochuck mountain Beginning at a Chesnut tree on the East side of the horse tavern brook in the line of Caleb Taylor and runs southwest up said brook to the line of Aaron Deckers land then along the same to the tier line then along the said tier line to a corner of Jesse Gustin's line and from thence to the place of beginning -- supposed to contain fifteen acres of land or be the same more or less within the same bounds .... Witnesses: Joseph Houston, Robert Fariet (Note: Jesse Gustin and Aaron Decker were sons-in-law of Samuel Knapp.) Land Sale to Samuel Knap from William and Mary Thompson - 18 July 1795 All that certain lot piece or parcel of land and premises being a part of one of the equalizing lots laid out on the division of the Patent of Waywayanda to the original Patentee right of Daniel Honan containing nine Hundred and thirty acres nearly one half of which is cut off by the Jersey line Situate at Pochunk in the town of Warwick and County of Orange aforesaid which said lot hereby intended to be conveyed Begins in the teer line of the first division of the drowned lands lots on Pochunk mountain and at the westerly corner of the lands late of Isaac Allison deceased and runs thence along the Said teer line South Sixty four degrees west three Chains and fifty links to the teer line of the Second division of the drowned lands Thence along the Same south thirty one degrees west fifteen chains to a heap of stones on a large rock made as a Division of the whole lot Thence along the division line thereof South fifty one degrees East one Hundred and one Chains and fifty links to Pochunk creek thence down the same Northerly as it runs to the Northeasterly line of the whole lot, and thence along the Same North forty Seven degrees west ninety four Chains and fifty links to the place of beginning .... Witnesses: Richd Graham, Benjamin Depuy, Junr. Samuel Knapp Land Sale to John D. Knapp - 13 April 1826 all that certain piece or parcel of land lying in the said town afforesaid beginning in the center of the turnpike road and runs thence along the land of Charles D. Howell South thirty six degrees and a half East twenty two chains and twenty links to an ash stump in the edge of the drowned lands thence South fifty degrees west three chains and ninety links thence along the lands of George D. Wickham and Jesse Wood South forty four degrees and thirty minutes west thirty four chains and thirty four links to the west side of a ridge of rocks on the East side of the road leading from Pochunck bridge to west town thence north forty five degrees and fifteen minutes west twelve chains and twenty five links along the road thence north forty nine degrees and thirty minutes west one chain and eighty eight links thence north thirteen degrees and thirty minutes west twenty three chains and sixty links to the center of the road leading from Samuel Knapps to the turnpike road thence along the Said road north eighty three degrees and thirty minutes East eight chains and eighty links to the center of the turnpike road thence along the same north? fifty eight degrees East six chains thence along the same north sixty seven degrees and thirty minutes East fifteen chains and twenty three links to the place of beginning .... Witnesses: Timothy Smith, James Clason (Note: John D. Knapp was the son of Samuel.) Land Sale to Samuel Knap From Squire Whitaker - 2 December 1772 Alien Enfieff and Confirm unto the said Samuel Knap, his heirs and assigns forever all that --- or Tract of Land Situate lying and being in the aforesaid County and province in the patent of Waywayanda and bounded as follows viz Beginning at a white Oak which is Backmans South Corner upon the Jersey Claim thence south Forty five degrees East Twenty seven Chaines and Fifty Links to a Stake and stones upon the west Corner of Squire Tracys Land thence North Forty five degrees East Thirty seven Chaines to William Holly's Land thence North Thirty two Degrees west Twenty Eight Chaines to a Red Oak Tree Standing on the West Side of ---cuts Hill Standing on the Bank of said Creek upon Bukmans Line thence along Bukmans Line to the place of Beginning....
