Visiting Goodwill Presbyterian cemetery in Montgomery recently, I found the tombstone of my ancestor John Harris (1747-1825). I was surprised to see a newish looking stone, inscribed, "John Harris, Revolutionary War, 2nd Reg. Ulster Co. Mil. 1747-1825". Earlier transcriptions of the cemetery stones read differently. I asked in the church who had replaced the stone and they did not know. I'm told the local DAR, SAR, American Legion chapters may have been responsible. A Sullivan Co. genealogist told me that a white granite stone indicates the work of the DAR or SAR, gray granite is the Veterans Administration. Anybody run into this situation? Do any listers have local contact numbers? I'd appreciate any leads. Thanks, Elizabeth Harris Pope, Tampa, Fl. ElizPope1@aol.com
