My great great grandparents were THOMAS DUNN and MARGARET FINN DUNN Both were born in Ireland (no idea where) came to the Hurley, NY area possibly in the 1840's or early 1850's. They had four children that I know of as follows: Mary Dunn - marries James Carroll. Lived in Hurley for a while and then moved to Troy, NY. Mary dies between 1880 and 1885 most likely in Troy. Michael Dunn - Born January 1861 in Hurley and married Margaret Keely in Oxford, NY. Dies in Norwich, NY on May 21, 1922 Martin Dunn - Born April 5, 1864 in Hurley and married Frances Flannigan in Oxford, NY. Dies in Norwich, NY on May 30, 1927. Katherine Dunn - Born 1860 in Hurley. Never married and died in Troy, NY on March 6, 1934. Katherine is buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Kingston and the stone shows her parent's names but they are not buried there with her. It is possible that when Mary Dunn Carroll died (leaving four infant girls) her parents Thomas and Margaret come to Troy. Thomas dies on August 20, 1881 but I have been unable to locate where. He was in Hurley in the 1880 census. Margaret dies on December 12, 1885 in Troy and the newspaper death notice says burial will be in Rondout, NY but I have no idea what cemetery. My unanswered questions on the Dunn's are: 1. Where did Thomas and Margaret come from? 2. Where are they buried and where did Thomas die? 3. Were there other Dunn relatives in Hurley? 4. Michael and Martin were stonecutters in Hurley and had the same occupation in Oxford, NY (near Norwich). Were there Dunn relatives in Oxford that brought the two boys there? 5. Mary Dunn Carroll was in the 1880 census in Troy with her husband James Carrol and four girls. Mary and two of the girls (Margaret Carroll and Catherine Carroll - who were both born in Hurley) disappear from the records and James is remarried around 1885 and has a new family started. So when did Mary, Margaret and Catherine die? I am posting this message to the Dunn, Ulster County and Ireland mailing lists to see if there are any clues out there. Thanks in advance, Bill McGrath Clifton Park, NY
