Unfortunately, I have nothing about the surnames, but I do have a page from an old town gazeteer, which states: "Whiteport...is about four miles north from Rosendale, and about the same distance southwest of Rondout. It contains the Newark & Rosendale Lime and Cement Works and a population of about 1,500, including what is known as Hickory Bush. The village has been built up almost wholly by the Cement Work...They employ about 180 men..." Rosendale itself was formed from Marbletown, New Paltz, and Hurley on 26 Apr 1844. It had a Catholic church from early times, but my folks in Whiteport were part of the German-speaking congregation in Rondout (an old part of Kingston). The Irish attended St. Mary's, which I also believe is in Rondout, if not, then in southern Kingston. St. Mary's does respond to requests for info about the parish and cemetery records. I hope this is informative. Sharon Carberry
