I am looking for information on Peter Markinson b. abt 1760 married to Catarina Roosa b. abt 1762 in Kingston. Married 19 June 1785 at Katsbaan and Saugerties Reformed Church, Ulster County, New York. In the baptismal records of his children Peter's surname is variously spelled: Markison, Markeson, Marchason, Merdisin and Meertzen. His descendants settled on the name Margison. I have hit a brick wall trying to find Peter’s parents. Any info appreciated **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)
Dear Dippy1951, From Peter and Catarina's marriage record at the Katsbaan Dutch Church you will have noted that "Pieter Margerson" is said to have been from New York. This conventionally meant that he was born in New York City. I have found a candidate couple to have been his parents and offer them only as a possibility. On 6 Feb 1745 "Pieter Margezin and his wife Catharina Cersting" had their daughter Catharina baptized in the New York City Dutch Church. The witnesses were Gidion Cersting and Catharina Cokkevier, his wife. "Peter Margeson and Catharina Carstang" had been married in the same church on 5 August 1742. They could well have been the parents of the Peter who married Catharina Roosa. It is of further interest that on 1 Mar 1786 "Peter Markison and Treintje Roosa" baptized their oldest child and named her "Caty". This name would be in honor of the paternal grandmother if my theory is correct.
