I found a James DICKINSON, on Ancestry.com, who enlisted in New York, 1860, this could be a match for my James P. Dickinson who was born in 1820. I have heard stories that someone in this family was in the Civil War but not sure who. Is there any information about NY units online? He was born in Ulster Co., NY and moved to Dutchess Co. later so he could have enlisted in either county, although he married in Poughkeepsie in Dutchess Co. in 1841, I can't find him in the 1850 census so not sure where he was living.
