Making Christopher the great grandfather and his son Peter the grandfather to Rebecca Ostrander [b. 1728] who m. Johannis Fort? Roosevelt, Published under the auspices of the Holland Society of New York by Dover Publications Inc. NY - originally published 1929 - Reprint by Dover 1965] this home is described this way. House of Johannes A. Fort Town of Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York The house on the east side of the state road (formerly King's Highway), about 4 miles south of the city of Poughkeesie and now owned by Frank Dickerson, was known years ago as the Fort homestead. The land it stands on was sold in 1759 by Christopher VAN BOMMEL to Johannes Abraham FORT ("late of Ulster County") and was built either by the VAN BOMMEL Family between 1742 and 1759 or by Johannes A. FORT about 1760. [As you can see the tad that was left out here is that it was Christopher VanBommel and his son Peter who deeded the land to Johannis Fort] ************************************** Dutchess County Deed Liber 10 Page 255 In 1784 Johannis A. Fort deeded to Abraham Fort, "son" - So we can safely say that Johannis Fort died aft. 7 April 1784. One of the boundaries in the description of this 1784 deed is "along the line of MARCUS VAN BOMMEL" ************************************** Ginny Help Save the FORT HOMESTEAD [Which may have originally been the VAN BOMMEL Homestead] http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/2843/saveforthomestead.html
