I'm trying to determine when Jane (or Janneken) VanWagenen, who supposedly married Edward Lounsbury, died. She may be the mother of my Richard Lounsbury, born March 5, 1768 in Marbletown/Stone Ridge. There are various accounts about who his mother was, but she was either Jane VanWagenen or Elizabeth Keator. I decided that if I could find out when Jane VanWagenen died, I would know whether or not she could be the mother of Richard Lounsbury. There is some debate about Edward's 3 wives. Some researcher say that he never married Jane VanWagenen and some say that he married her first and they had at least one child, my ancestor, Richard Lounsbury. His second wife was Elizabeth Keator and his third wife was Jane Dubois. The DAR Patriot Index lists the 3 wives in that order. The book Three Centuries of the Keator Family in America states that Elisabeth Keator (born in Marbletown and baptised 30 April 1738 and died circa 1778) married Edward Lounsbury and that their first child was Richard, born 5 March 1768. Of course it could be that Richard was Jane's child and Elizabeth just "adopted" him as her own. I haven't found a marriage or a death record for Jane VanWagenein, so I can't lay this controversy to rest yet. Can someone look up in Gravestones of Ulster County or some reference work and see when Jane VanWagenen died? She apparently was the daughter of Aert VanWagenen and Rebecca VanWagenen. I appreciate any assistance and insight into this problem. Thanks. Ann Lounsbery Owens, Seattle WA [email protected]
