I grew up in Foxboro, MA where they still have fence viewers. Although in times past they served the function of settling boundary disputes, they are still appointed in an honorary capacity today. Today two men who were newly married during the previous year are appointed to the one year positions. They don't do anything now though - just an honorary and ego enhancing position. Ruth Cherecwich
