Greetings Ulster County List: Here is an obituary from the Kripple Bush (Kripplebush) Methodist Church records compiled in the late 1800s, early 1900s. Benjamin F. TEAS, Kripple Bush Methodist Church Records, Book 2, Page 112, pasted copy of Obituary, Death date: March 11, 1895: “Kripple Bush: Benjamin F. TEAS died on Monday evening, March 11th, aged 89 years, 11 months and 4 days. He was born April 7, 1805, and was a son of John TEAS who was born March 3, 1779 and died October 1, 1853, and Esther FREER, born May 4, 1777, and died May 22, 1867, at the advanced age of 90 years and 18 days. The homestead of the Teas family in Kripple Bush as been owned by them for nearly one hundred years. Warner HOORNBEEK, the grandfather of the children of John TEAS, according to the records of the Methodist church, was baptized June 19th, 1737, and died January 14, 1806. He is supposed to have been the owner of the farm from the time of the Revolutionary war to the date of his death. His wife, Mary, died in this village on April 24, 1841, at the advanced age of 89 years, 4 months and 19 days. She remembered well the time when the Indians had their wigwams along one of the streams in Kripple Bush, had seen them dance around council fires and had been invited to eat with them, but if we are correctly informed, she declined the honor. There is only one daughter of John TEAS now living, Hannah M. Benjamin F. TEAS was very highly respected, and Rev. George Niemeyer, his pastor, in speaking of him said: “He was a grand old man, and a good, true, noble Christian character.” His funeral was held on Thursday at eleven o’clock in the Reformed church, Rev. Mr. Niemeyer officiating.
