Greetings Ulster County List: Here is an obituary from the Kripple Bush (Kripplebush) Methodist Church records compiled in the late 1800s, early 1900s. Please note that the Fairview Cemetery is on Pine Bush Road, a few miles north of Kripplebush--not to be confused with the Pine Bush that is in Orange County, NY. Kripple Bush Methodist Church Records, Book 3, Page 30, pasted copy of obituary of Maria C. SMITH, Death date: December 30, 1891: “Kripple Bush – Maria C. SMITH, widow of Richard L. OSTERHOUDT, and daughter of Warner H. SMITH and Rebecca ROOSA, died at the residence of her son Warner S. OSTERHOUDT, near Newburgh, Orange County, on Wednesday evening, December 30th. She was born October 13, 1824 and on March 4th, 1848, married Richard L. OSTERHOUDT who died June 10th, 1888. The deceased had spent nearly her whole life in Kripple Bush and had been a member of the Methodist Church, and but a few years ago went to live with her son near Newburgh, where she died as above stated after a brief illness. Their children are Alonzo, who died April 15th, 1875; Sarah Jane who burned to death in March, 1876; John J., who still lives in Kripple Bush; Helen W. who died in February, 1884; Hannah Esther, who died June 21, 1867, and Warner S., who still lives at Newburgh. The funeral of Mrs. Osterhoudt was held in the Methodist Church on Monday afternoon at two o’ clock, Rev. Harry DEWS officiating. The remains were incased in a beautiful casket upon which rested some fine floral tributes. Miss Hattie WAGER presided at the organ. Henry TEN HAGEN, Samuel F. ALLIGER, Wm. CONNER, John H. SMITH, Hiram D. WOOD and Jacob E. HOORNBEEK were the pallbearers.
