I am looking for additional information about Emanuel Armentor, who is listed on the 1810 Census in Ulster County. We have found a land record in which he bought a tract of land in the area called Arm Bowery. There were several members in his family, according to the 1810 census entry. Surely one or more of them must have appeared on some type of record in the area? Marriage? Death? Land Sale? Birth Record? etc. Can someone in the area help with lookups for this family? Much obliged. Thanks, Norman Carnahan <mailto:carnahan@ghg.net>carnahan@ghg.net NFC

After having spent a week in Salt Lake search for information on Elijah Conklin's parents (DOB ca 1772 and date of death after the 1860 census) I am beginning to think the man was a figment of my family tree. But, then if that was the case I would not be here. Oh, well. QUESTION: Can someone recommend a researcher who could help me in my searching for information on the following family? Elijah Conklin (ca 1772-1860+) + Mary Buys (1779-1860+) 2. Stephen Conklin (1798-bef 1800) 2. Mary Ann Conklin (1800-?) 2. Carrolina Conklin (1803-?) + David Redner 2. Isaac Conklin (1805-?) 2. James Harvey (1809-1899) + Sarah A. Knapp (1814-1873) 2. Sally VanWyen (1812-?) 2. Catharine Conklin (1814-?) 2. Mahalia Conklin (1816-?) 2. Jacob Bice Conklin (1819-?) 2. Cornelius Jansen Conklin (1821-) The first four children were baptized in the Dutch Reformed Church of Sleepy Hollow. Catharine was baptized in the New Hurley Dutch Reformed Church. The remaining were baptized in the Shawangunk Dutch Reformed Church. While Mary Buys is closely attached to the Dutch community, Elijah's name is not one found in any Dutch Records except his marriage and the baptism of his children. He does not seem to have left any will or probate records. Carolee California ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. Hi Edward, The Reformed Church of Shawangunk is still active and has a website which can be accessed here: http://www.shawangunkreformed.org/ The Shawangunk Reformed Dutch Church Ground (now called Bruynswick Rural Cemetery) is located directly behind the church building. Both the church and the parsonage are original structures, and only a few modifications have been made to the church itself. As Merry stated, the burial records for William Benson and Synthe Elmendorf are found on _page 309_ of J. Wilson Poucher's "Old gravestones of Ulster County, New York" (1931) William Benson, died 24 Jan 1799, age 37-9-25 Sintje Elmendorf, wife of William Benson, died 24 Oct 1805, age 43-3-26 On page 311 of the same book, Evert Decker (2nd husband of Synthe Elmendorf) and his (3rd) wife Maria Terwilliger are also listed. Evert Decker was baptized at Kingston 28 Oct 1753, the son of Isaac Decker and Annetjen Bogardus. He married (1st) on 23 Oct 1777 at Shawangunk to Catharina Decker; (2nd) on 3 Apr 1803 at Shawangunk to "Synthe Benson" [LDS Film #0017922]; (3rd) on 26 May 1806 at Shawangunk to Maria Terwilliger. Evert Decker died 11 Aug 1832. Children of William Benson & Synthe Elmendorf, all baptized at the Reformed Church of Shawangunk (Arthur C. M. Kelly transcriptions): 1. John #1016; Bapt. Date: Oct 1788; Parents: William Benson, Syntie Elmendorph 2. Ann #1126; Birth Date: 6 Apr 1791; Bapt. Date: 17 Nov 1791; Parents: William Benson, Syntie Elmendorph 3. Levi #1246; Birth Date: 12 Aug 1793; Bapt. Date: 17 Nov 1793; Parents: William Benson, Syntie Elmendorph 4. Elizabeth #1374; Birth Date: 7 Nov 1795; Bapt. Date: 17 Nov 1795; Parents: William Benson, Sintye Elmendorph 5. James #1523; Birth Date: 5 Mar 1798; Bapt. Date: 17 Nov 1798; Parents: William Benson, Syntie Elmendorph As you know, John Benson and his wife Hannah P. were living in Lloyd, according to the 1850 census: 2 Aug 1850 1850 > NEW YORK > Ulster > Lloyd Series: M432 Roll: 608 Page: 285 John Benson, age 61, Boatman Hannah P. Benson, age 38 John H. Benson, age 19, Laborer Elnora Benson, age 18 Louisa Benson, age 17 Asahel G. Benson, age 16, Laborer Mary E. Benson, age 12 Rachel A. Benson, age 7 Charles Benson, age 4 Sorry, but I have nothing further to add on the origins (parents) of either William Benson or Synthe Elmendorf. Best regards, Pam Sears
No luck...I do not see Elijah or Mary CONKLIN listed anywhere in this book. There is an Abijah CONKLIN, Co E 156 NY Inf. listed in the Walker Valley Cemetery (Town of Shawangunk) but no others. ~ Merry
Thanks, I guess a day trip up to the graveyard is in order. I am looking for the parents of either one of these folks. But from my research it seems likely that Benson came in from outside the county and Elmendorph from Kingston. -----Original Message----- From: nyulster-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nyulster-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Merry Sent: Tuesday, February 20, 2007 7:10 PM To: nyulster@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NY-ULSTER] Shawangunk Reformed Church I have a copy of the book. I am sure that you will get lots of request for lookups. I am sorry to ask for one. As I have been unable to locate Elijah and Mary CONKLIN's date and place of death from reading many films and lots of searching I am afraid that you might be my last resource. The couple lived in Shawangunk area since the 1810 census and disappeared after the 1860. I guess you could say 50 years is a long time. Please forgive me imposing my quest on you by asking you if they are listed in your resource, "Old gravestones of Ulster County, New York : twenty-two-thousand inscriptions" by Poucher, J. Wilson. The cemetery is listed in "Old gravestones of Ulster County, New York : twenty-two-thousand inscriptions" by Poucher, J. Wilson. The book was done in the 1930s.
