Do you have any information on Shafer's in Ulster County prior to 1823? My 4th great grandfather John Dederick Shafer was the son of George Dederick Shafer and they lived in Orange County and Ulster County. I look forward to hearing from you. Good evening I am seeking information on Elijah Conklin and his wife Mary (Buys) Conklin, my third great-grandparents. This couple lived in Shawangunk, Ulster County from 1810 to after 1860 with the exception of the 1850 and 1855 census when the family lived in Wawarsing. They returned to Shawangunk for the 1860 census and disappear after this census. (died?) Unfortunately the 1865, NY state census is missing for Shawangunk and Wawarsing. Elijah was born about 1772 and Mary (Polly) Buys, 20 Oct 1779. The couple married 14 August 1798 in Westchester. The 1855 census lists the county of birth for both people as Westchester Co. Mary has very strong ties to the Dutch Reformed Church. Elijah does NOT appear to be Dutch name, at least as far as the DRC records are concerned. Can anyone help? Good early morning! (We genealogists do our best work in the wee hours when we won't be interrupted!) I don't directly have what you are looking for, but maybe you have seen something I'm looking for: A Joseph Conklin marrying Jannett Monell (she being the daughter of James Monell of New Windsor, Ulster Co., and James being earlier from Wallkill; James moved his family to NYC in about 1782). Did you happen to see a marriage for Joseph and Jannett in Westchester about the same time frame (1800) at a DRC or Presbyterian church. Joseph and Elijah could be brothers. Hi Rhoda, Hi Rhoda, My relation to this family is through Magdalena Veeder, the wife of Harmanus Terwilliger. The baptisms are all listed in the Old Dutch Church baptism book. I can get the information from there. Thanks. Richard
