    1. [NY-ULSTER] Phillips Knapp Family Reunion
    2. Barbara de Mare
    3. Third Annual Phillips Knapp Reunion The Phillips-Knapp Family Association is planning its third annual reunion for the weekend of September 15 and 16, 2007. It is open to anyone who has an ancestor from Rockland County surnamed Phillips or Knapp. If in doubt, join our group! Annual dues are only $5 payable in cash at the reunion, or by check to Vicki Miller. Our reunion will kick off with a welcoming breakfast at the home of Vicki Miller in Thiells. From there we will proceed to a three hour cruise on the Hudson River, complete with catered lunch and guide to tell us something about the lives of our ancestors in and along the river. After the cruise we will return to Thiells to relax while eating pie in a pie baking contest and watching a History Channel presentation on the Haverstraw brickmaking industry. Hopefully we will also have a speaker from the brick museum. We intend to end the day at the Phillips-Knapp Cemetery on Beech Road. Sunday morning we will tour the graves of our ancestors buried in Mt. Rest Cemetery and unveil the DAR plaque on the grave of Agnes Phillips before attending services at the church next to the cemetery. This church was founded by our ancestors, and was previously known as the Crick Church or St. Georges. Now it is simply called the First United Methodist Church of Stony Point. After worship we will proceed to the Town of Haverstraw Park for a picnic, and then say farewell at Parrot Bay. For further information please contact Vicki Miller at avmofm@aol.com or Barbara de Mare at BarbaradeMare@yahoo.com We are expecting participants from all over the country, so please come and meet your cousins on this fun-filled weekend. The cost of the reunion is only $15 for the catered lunch plus the $5 dues. There is no better bargain to be had! Barbara L. de Mare, Esq. I think I've hit the proverbial brick wall. I found him in the Federal Census records 1860-1910 in the Town of Kingston. He died in 1911. Unfortunately, he can't be found in the NY STATE 1865 Census for the Town of Kingston or Kingston which asks a question about whether the person had served in the military. So I'll check surrounding towns. I've sent for records for an Owen Duffy from NARA, but since have discovered that this Owen Duffy was the wrong one. So for now I'll just say a prayer to the genealogy gods! Ellen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. (http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/) None of these men seem to be from a Regiment from Ulster County. I found Owen Duffy in the 1880 and 1900 census in Kingston with his large family, but he was not in the 1890 census of Civil War veterans. You can dig a little further, of course. Maybe he did not live in Ulster Co. until after the war? Gretchen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NY-ULSTER] St. Anne's Sawkill Cemetery, Kingston
    2. Raymond Cassidy
    3. To those on the list who have been trying to research interment records of St. Anne's Sawkill Cemetery in Kingston, I have sad news to report. I'm reliably informed that all of the original interment records were stolen around 1942-1943, and have never been returned. The original Cemetery plot map was either taken or destroyed in the late 1950s. This is terrible news not only for myself, but for all of the researchers of St. Anne's who so earnestly communicated through this list. As for myself, it's very discouraging to have the nearly ten years of family research that led me to St Anne's suddenly end without resolution.. I'm also informed that a new map was constructed from the few graves that were marked, family deeds, and receipts; but barring the return of the original documents, those graves that are unmarked are probably lost forever. Why would anyone want to steal such documents? Ray Cassidy

He was born abt 1812 in Westchester and she in Dutchess. They were married in Dutchess and lived in Dutchess until abt 1850 when they moved to the Rochester area of Ulster. The first 6 of their children were born in Dutchess. The next 5 may have been born in either Dutchess or Ulster. In any event none of this 5 are on the 1850 Census in Ulster so they may have died in Dutchess or Ulster. The last 2 children were born in Ulster but only 1 appears on the 1855 Ulster Census. The parents and 2 of the older children do not appear on a census after 1855. If you can help I would appreciate it. I have DOB for the parents and all the children as well as info on the later life of most of the children. Please contact me here or directly at MBacon3@cfl.rr.com. 2. Greetings Ulster County List: Here is an obituary from the Kripple Bush (Kripplebush) Methodist Church records compiled in the late 1800s, early 1900s: Frank CHAMBERS, Kripple Bush Methodist Church Records, Book 2, Page 114, pasted copy of Obituary, Death date: July 27,1895: “Kripple Bush: Frank CHAMBERS, died on Saturday, July 27th, aged about 35 years. He was born in this village, and was a son of George W. CHAMBERS who died November 16th, 1877, and Elizabeth D. LYONS, who is still living. The CHAMBERS family is one of the ancient and prominent families of the town of Marbletown. They owned the fine farms now in the possession of George BARNHART, Mrs. Thomas B. WESTBROOK, and William BEATTY. Thomas Chambers owned the ancient farm just across the street from the Methodist church in Kripple Bush now occupied by Mrs. James LOUNSBERY. This farm is supposed to have been part of the land sold by the Trustees of Marbletown, on April 24th, 1764, to Ephraim Chambers, and remained in possession of descendants of the Chambers’ family until November 19, 1890. Thomas CHAMBERS is supposed to have been born in the town of Rochester in 1750, and came to Kripple Bush about 1770, and was a soldier in the Revolutionary war. He had two sons, John born March 4th, 1783, and Henry born in 1787. On May 20, 1812, Gen Daniel D. Tompkins appointed John CHAMBERS an officer to serve in the war of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain. On March 24, 1821, George DeWitt Clinton appointed him one of the Justices of the Peace of Marbletown. In 1844 he was Supervisor of this town. He kept a store and did a very extensive business just across the street from the Methodist church from about the year 1828 to the time of his death which occurred December 28, 1853. After the death of John Chambers, his son Thomas, and grandson Stephen B. Chambers conducted the business for a short time. Afterwards Stephen B. Chambers sold his interest to Thomas Chambers who continued it until his death on May 12th, 1865. Frank CHAMBERS who died on Saturday was very highly respected and his death is greatly regretted by his many acquaintances. There is only one daughter of John TEAS now living, Hannah M. Benjamin F. TEAS was very highly respected, and Rev.
