    3. Did you check to see if there are any researchers listed on the Ulster County Gen Web site? Sometimes there are volunteers listed and paid researchers listed on those sites. I hope you find someone who will do the research for you. 1. [NY-ULSTER] Ann: Palatine genealogy lecture
    2. Barbara de Mare
    3. The Genealogical Society of Rockland County starts off its 2007-2008 season with a program about our Palatine ancestors. This discussion is particularly timely, as plans are underway for a huge 2010 Hudson Valley celebration of the tricentennial of the arrival of the Palatines in our Valley. We are particularly honored to have Nan Dixon for our speaker for this program. Topic: Our Palatine Ancestors Speaker: Nancy Wagoner Dixon. Nan Dixon, a noted Palatine historian, is the author of the popular book, Palatine Roots: The 1710 German Settlement in New York as Experienced by Johann Peter Wagner. This book gives a wonderful background of why the Palatines came to New York, and of their adventures in the Hudson Valley. Mrs. Dixon is Vice President of the New York Chapter of Palatines to America and comes to us from upstate New York, near Lake Ontario. When: September 25, 2007, 7 PM Where: New City Library Palatine background: The Palatines came from all over Europe, but primarily from the lower Rhine area known as the Palatinate. They went up the Rhine to Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and then eventually to England. The English Queen Anne had promised free passage and riches in America to all who would emigrate. Her Golden Book showing the lush land was the final incentive of many to make the voyage. Far more people made the pilgrimage to England for passage to America than had been anticipated. People waited in tent cities all over England. Those who eventually arrived on our shores found the themselves in virtual serfdom to the patroons, particularly Robert Livingston. They were fed by Governor Hunter with meager allowances from Livingston for their work. Eventually the hardiest (or the trouble-makers depending on your point of view) migrated further north to the Schoharie Valley. Some later continued on to be the first settlers of the Mohawk Valley. General Herkimer, the hero of the Battle of Oriskany in the Revolution, was a Palatine. Barbara L. de Mare, Esq. As far as the connection between those Lybolt's in Mamakating (Ulster then later Sullivan County) and those in Montgomery (Orange COunty) NY, they are indeed of the same family origin. Many Lybolt's born in Montgomery, NY later moved to Mamakating and then later moved back to the Montgomery / Wallkill area. I don't have access to my files at this moment, I am on a laptop and not my desktop, to send you more concrete evidence. I have not been able to find the links between all of these lybolt's yet naming patterns seems to indicate that there may be connections. Another set of Lybolt's began in the Montgomery area and moved north, the county name escapes me at this moment. It is the belief of many Lybolt researchers that all of the New York Lybolt's (with their various spellings) are related to the same tree. It is also thought that in some instances at least, Seybolt may be a mis-transcription since the ha! ndwriting styles of that era made the capital L to look like the modern day capital S. This is also true of the double s which has been confused with the modern day f. Sarah Winfield who married Daniel Lybolt was married at least once before, again not being at my files I cannot recall right now what her previous married name was. Flemming, however, does not ring a bell. fred Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. She sent me information you and she had found on my Clark family, for which I am so grateful. I know you are primarily interested in the Burns family, but I thought I would ask you if Ella forwarded my family's branch of info to you. My grandfather, GEORGE GUNN CLARK, was born in 1875 in Weld County, Colorado, the son of Hugh & Elizabeth Clark. I have quite a bit of information about them, but still many unknowns. If you'd like to exchange information with me, please email me at redbluffs@gmail.com. I am still trying to find George's place of burial, which I believe to be in an old cemetery in the Esopus area, either called Riverview or Hillside. I am grateful that you might be able to look for the names of my family, as I live in Utah and too far to come look for myself. Here are my facts: 1. My grandfather, GEORGE GUNN CLARK, died 12 Nov 1917 in Manhattan, NY. He was sent to Kingston for burial, as all his family lived in the Esopus-Kingston area. I have been unable to find any record in any cemetery. Someone told me there was an old cemetery in the area (Hillside?) with many Clarks buried in it. 2. Other Names I hope to find: Robert Clark, death sometime after 1920; Hugh Clark, sometime after 1900; Caroline J. Clark (Carrie) sometime after 1969. The strange thing is, there are many Clarks in the Kingston area that are all my family, but I find no records of burials for any of them. Any clue you can give me will be much appreciated!! Doesn't sound like my Margaret is of the Mamakating Lybolts, though I am sure the families are connected. Lybolt Road in Walkill is very near the county line and Mamakating. My Margaret Lybolt shows as being born in Montgomery, though without source. All her children were baptized in Montgomery (Reformed Church records). She subsequently moved to Walkill where she died (Obit in Whig Press), and where my Winfield ancestors remained for 3 generations. As for your Sarah A. Winfield, I have extensive data on the Winfields of Ulster and Orange Cos., NY and Sussex Co. NJ, all descended from one Richard (Rutsert) Winfield who came to Kingston/Ulster in 1690. The only Sarah A. born around 1818 is as follows: 104. RICHARD5 WINFIELD (HENRY4, HENRY3, ABRAAM2 WINDVELD, RUTSERT1 WINTVELD) was born December 25, 1798, and died April 1840. He married ELIZABETH FORCE March 03, 1821 in Sussex, NJ. Children of RICHARD WINFIELD and ELIZABETH FORCE are: i. SARAH ANN6 WINFIELD, m. ROBERT FLEMING, 1839. This says (again without source) that she was born 1821 or later, and married a Robert Fleming when she was quite young. Could be her marriage to your Daniel Lybolt was a second marriage for her? Again, without source info there is no way to tell. This branch of Winfields was in Sussex Co NJ and there are some good church records from there. I have tons of info on Winfields, including places to search for source material, so if you want to pursue, let me know and I can try to point you in the right direction. Meanwhile, I would appreciate anything you find/have on Lybolts. Other spellings I have seen include Libott and Libolt. Others have suggested that Seybolt might have been incorrectly transcribed as Lybolt. I am sure that they are all closely related, as there just weren't that many of them in the area. feel free to take this off line via my email wffields_33@yahoo.com Wayne Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Barbara de Mare
    3. Third Annual Phillips Knapp Reunion The Phillips-Knapp Family Association is planning its third annual reunion for the weekend of September 15 and 16, 2007. It is open to anyone who has an ancestor from Rockland County surnamed Phillips or Knapp. If in doubt, join our group! Annual dues are only $5 payable in cash at the reunion, or by check to Vicki Miller. Our reunion will kick off with a welcoming breakfast at the home of Vicki Miller in Thiells. From there we will proceed to a three hour cruise on the Hudson River, complete with catered lunch and guide to tell us something about the lives of our ancestors in and along the river. After the cruise we will return to Thiells to relax while eating pie in a pie baking contest and watching a History Channel presentation on the Haverstraw brickmaking industry. Hopefully we will also have a speaker from the brick museum. We intend to end the day at the Phillips-Knapp Cemetery on Beech Road. Sunday morning we will tour the graves of our ancestors buried in Mt. Rest Cemetery and unveil the DAR plaque on the grave of Agnes Phillips before attending services at the church next to the cemetery. This church was founded by our ancestors, and was previously known as the Crick Church or St. Georges. Now it is simply called the First United Methodist Church of Stony Point. After worship we will proceed to the Town of Haverstraw Park for a picnic, and then say farewell at Parrot Bay. For further information please contact Vicki Miller at avmofm@aol.com or Barbara de Mare at BarbaradeMare@yahoo.com We are expecting participants from all over the country, so please come and meet your cousins on this fun-filled weekend.
