Curious - if a person could get to the Surrogate office, would they charge the fee to 'search' or would they let the person look for the document themselves? Thanks. >Surrogate Court >240 Fair Street >Kingston, NY 12401 >(914) 340-3348 >For estates 25 years or older, Surrogate Court >charges $70 for the search and $1 per page copy fee. >For estates less than 25 years old, they charge >$25 for the search, and $1 per page copy fee. >Surrogate Court is a State function and the fees >are set by the state.
Hello, Thank you for everyone I am sure. I am looking for early Morris as early as early can be. After 1870 there would be none alive in the area. Heck of a name to look for as there are a million of them from 1780 until 1840 and then they are out of NY. Looking for John, James, Sherman and more! If you have Tartelus and Hezekiah not my boys. However I know someone who would like them. Vanda Greenwood Vanda444@aol.com
Catherine, I checked the current local phone directory and there are no Vanfleet families currently listed in the Owasco, NY. area. There are a couple families listed in Auburn, NY and about 7 listed in Port Byron, NY. Port Byron is a small village located about 10 miles northwest of Owasco on the other side of Auburn. It's possible that some of your Vanfleets migrated in that direction. Good hunting, L. Request from Sue at sbedson@worldnet.att.net Requested Stephen & Elizabeth Conklin, alive in 1855. Search Results: Will Index 1787-1916 / Found Conklin surname in index, but no Stephen or Elizabeth Gen Index 1787-1895 : Elizabeth Conklin / Box 239-29 (unknown proceeding, not a will, could be intestate proceeding, guardianship proceeding, etc.) Gen Index 1895-1929 / Found Conklin surname in index, but no Stephen or Elizabeth Regards, Ginny
Roberta: Yes, the volume of requests has become quite overwhelming and I may have to soon terminate offer. At first, I was sending responses directly to requester. I am now sending all responses to the NYULSTER mailing list. Marilyn: I've become quite overwhelmed by volume of requests and will soon terminate offer if volume continues. I volunteered to do lookups of Wills at Ulster County Surrogate Court. I need last name, first name, and date of death. If there's a Will, I will post an abstract to the Ulster Co. Mailing List. Sorry, but I just don't have the time to do lookups of intestate proceedings on microfilm. Also, if there is a Will, I don't have the time to provide an abstract of the probate proceeding. Send me your names and dates, and I'll look them up next time I'm at the county office building. I am sorry but I made a mistake in my message of Jan 26, 1999. The name of the town in Cayuga County, NY was Owasco and not Oswego. The Vanfleets were there in the 1820 and 1830 census but not before. If anybody knows whether this man came to Cayuga Co from somewhere else or if you know of a Vanfleet family living somewhere else in NY, please respond. I know that most of the Vanfleets were descendants of Adriaan Gerrits van Vliet, who came to the States in 1662 and have contact with several people who are pursuing lines descending from him, but have been able to find James on any of those. Many descendants of Adriaan Gerrits were born in between as James Vanfleet was born in appr. 1790. Any suggestions are welcome! Catherine Stuy Verkijk DVerkijk@aol.com

Looking for information on Horace Winchell Allerton and his wife Eliza Ross Otter who lived in Deer Park, Orange County in the mid to late 1800's. Thank you
I am researching the Vanfleet line in Oswegeo,Cayuga Co, NY. I found James Vanfleet on the 1820 and 1830 census there, but could not find him there beforethat time. He was born appr. 1790, was married to Leah Cuyendoll(Kuikendaal) and had several children in Oswego, amongst them Alonso born 1819 who left with the mormon pioneers for Utah. I think James was born somewhere else in NY or NJ and would like to receive any info from anybody who is searching the same line or who has some information about this man and his ancestors. Many thanks Catherine Stuy Verkijk DVerkijk@aol.com
Juanita: Whenever I look for someone, I first look for a Will and finding none, I look in index for any other proceeding. If there's a will, I'll provide an extract. If there's an old proceeding (intestate, guardianship, etc.) that's on microfilm, I'll provide the index information. If the proceeding has not yet been put on microfilm, I'll provide an extract of that proceeding. In your case, there were no records at all on Philetus, Sophronia or Jane Johnson. This can all sound pretty confusing, I know. Just don't be intimidated to ask....that's the only way we learn Regards, Ginny Byron -----Original Message----- From: Rick Schneider <srqrick@mindspring.com> To: vbyron@ulster.net <vbyron@ulster.net> Date: Tuesday, January 26, 1999 8:52 AM Subject: JOHNSON LOOKUP >Ginny, > Hate bothering you again......just read message regarding responding to >list.....I too think that is great idea, mainly because the information will >be in the archives for later researchers. > >Question ????
