Hi, An odd entry from the LDS film of the Katsbaan Register: Baptism date: 23 Apr 1767 Child's name: Isaac Parents: Brink, Cornelius & Winne, Annatje Sponsors: Post, Isaac & Decker, Maria Arrows were drawn & a note made to indicate that the sponsors were really the parents & vice versa. Does anyone have info on these families that would reveal whether the child baptized that day was in fact Isaac BRINK or Isaac POST? Hello everyone, I am Barbara from Fleetwood, Lancashire, England, and I am a new subscriber.I need your help to find any living descendants of my Gt. Grandmother's family. They were JOHN and MARY BURKE nee CARROLL married in the village of Knockainey, Co. Limerick, Rep. of Ireland in 1861. They had three children in Knockainey, THOMAS b 1862, MARY b 1864 & JOHN b 1865. They then emigrated to 56 VANNESS STREET, NEWBURGH, ORANGE COUNTY, NEW YORK and had a further three children, LIZZIE, SARAH & MICHAEL.Thomas became a shoemaker and I think that Michael and John Jn. joined the United States army. The mother Mary moved to an address on Broadway, Newburgh, early in the 1900s. I then lost track of them. I would dearly love to be able to get in touch with any living descendants of this family but after four years of searching, I am still looking.Any help you can give me would be most gratefully received. With my thanks and regards to all.Barbara.

The Ulster County Genealogical Society does not charge for research (however - donations are gratefullty accepted) All queries are referred to a research committee, and questions answered as they are able. All this I learned from the last president, who then asked me "But don't you have researcher's addresses listed on the same page?" I hope this helps you some. Good Luck in your research. Hi, After spending a lot of time with LDS film # 0017722, which contains a copy of the Katsbaan baptismal & marriage registers from the NYS Genealogical Society (or so I understand it), I find myself increasing puzzled. I'm sure Audrey or Richard can answer this, & as the answer may also be of assistance to others, I'm posting the query to the list. I think I read that the original registers are locked in a vault? I suspect that they have never been microfilmed? So... how many transcriptions are there, & when were they done, & by whom? How much do they differ? In what form are they available? Audrey's index cites page numbers for copies of Olde Ulster, but there are names I see on the LDS film that are either very different or that I can't find at all. I wonder if that is because the spellings vary so widely between the 2 versions? Also, I recall something about an additional list? I have info from various researchers, citing to baptisms at the Katsbaan church, but some of the entries I'm finding don't match. Could they have looked at another transcript? On the filmed copy, someone has crossed out names or dates in places & written others above. All very confusing. Any explication will be much appreciated. All were married, one woman having with her at the time her five-year-old boy. One of the prisoners said she was Mrs. Mary STRONG, 450 West Forty-sixth Street. She was charged with taking $6 worth of goods from the store. The others were Mrs. Julia HARVEY of 313 Fifty-fourth Street, Brooklyn, and Mrs. Lizzie WHITE of the same address. When the women were brought before Sgt. McCARTHY of the Tenderloin station, Mrs. HARVEY wept bitterly. She said she did not know why she shoplifted and pleaded to be let go. Her little boy, about 5 years old, with long curls, kept back his tears until his mother was being led away. "Only let me take my little boy, Buster, to the cell with me and I don't care what happens" the woman said to Sgt. McCARTHY. Her told her that was impossible. The boy clung to his mother's skirts, but was finally carried away crying loudly. He was taken to the rooms of the Children's Society.
