It is the index page for a rather large file of CONKLIN in Orange County. I have no other information about this file but I thought I would list the contents here for everyone to see. If you see someone that you want more information on you would have to visit the genealogical society in Goshen or perhaps write or call them for more information. When I visited they were very helpful. The copy is difficult to read in places and I placed a question mark when I couldn't figure out what the name was. I found something at the Phoenicia Library in the Town of Shandaken that is of genealogical value but because of its size, it cannot be copied on the library's copier and they wouldn't let me borrow it to take it to another copier. It's a rather large original log book of the names of men who worked at the Woodland Tannery. The log starts in 1856. The first few pages are quite worn but the rest is in excellent condition. If someone nearby has a hand scanner, would that work? Ginny Byron vbyron@ulster.net
Hello, I hate to ask as I am not much of a helper on this list but I PROMISE I have helped many especially with the MORRIS surname and in the South central part of NY. Thus I ask if any of you that offered to do look ups might do me the favor of giving the old book a look for Marriages in particular of a John MORRIS very early on like before 1800. !797 is the best year but since he was born May25th 1765 he could have married 2 times. Married Cynthiania Bowers or an older spelling of that name in 1797 Sept. 2. Actually any MORRIS before 1800 would help . Sorry but if your relatives head west I can help you and will. I.O.O.F. is a fraternal organization, believed to have started in England, formed for the purpose of providing aid to those in need. Story is that they were called "odd" because it was odd at the time to be concerned with the less fortunate. IOOF's sister organization is the Rebekah Lodge. Is anyone researching the de Bressoc family? In the 1790 Col. Co. census there are Bressac and Brissac families. I'd love to know their origins. Thank you. Phyllis
Good Morning... Anyone researching WORDENs? And is Ellensville in Ulster? Regards, Christine
Christine: I have Wordens in my tree as well and I'm forwarding on 2 emails I received on the Worden Branch. I don't have too much but also sending copy to the cousin in Michigan who is the Worden Expert. Hope this ties in with your Wordens and we get a hit here! #1:Ann Jurckes/Jurchse/Yerex/Yerks married Joseph Orser/Osser/Auser/Aarse/Aertse 13Sept 1746. In 1783 they left NY for Quebec. Son John stayed behind and eventually got the land in Westchester Co. Daughter Phoebe was already married to Jeremiah WORDEN and went to Saint John, NB with his family. In 1800 Jeremiah's father Gabriel died so they left NB and settled in Kingston Ontario with Phoebe's mother and her siblings. The son Orsers populated Ontario with surname ORSER. Annes parents were Johannes Jurchse and Rachel Willemse.(Vicki's note: I descend from the Jurchse/Yerks/Yerex/Yourex's so have a lot of info if you would like.) Johannes Jurckse parents were Johannes Jurckse and Annetze Jochem Van Wert and this Johannes parents were Paulus and Christina. #2: In 1783 Ann and Joseph left NYC for Quebec with rest of unmarried children (minus John). Joseph died in Sorel, Que. Ann went onto Kingston and obtained land as a Loyalist. Her sons populated Ontario with surname ORSER. Phoeb went with her husband and his family to Saint John, NB. They settled in Grand Bay (resort now and land expensive). Jeremiahs father Gabriel died 1800 and in 1801 Jeremiah left NB and settled with Phoebes family in Kingston. C. E. Er...folks... :) I meant *specific* lookups. Some Ulster families will have dozens of entries in each category in the index. I'll try looking for some of those surname requests, but.... If you are looking for a specific baptism or marriage, it is more likely that I'll get a chance to look it up & reply. Peggy Previous message: Taking a cue from Ginny Byron <g>, My copy of Baptismal & Marriage Records of the Old Dutch Church in Kingston, 1660-1809 ($21 from Barnes and Noble!) arrived yesterday. I'll do lookups as time permits. Indexed for baptisms are fathers, mothers, & witnesses. For marriages, husband & wife. The entries are by date.
