Hi All, >From the overwhelming response - this is a paid database but does have free things frequently for short time periods. Right now there is a free NY City Wills 1780-1782. The site address is: http://www.ancestry.com/ancestry/search.asp Hope this helps everyone. Best, Sue in TN
Hi All, If you haven't checked the Ancestry site in a while, now is the time to do it! They have a new Census Index that allows you to put in a state and then a name and then gives you all instances of that name, roll number, and page number in the census. Check it out! Best, Sue in TN
Hi, I'm new to this list. I'm interested in Orange County, NY. I see some of my Kent line might have lived in the town of Montgomery, Orange County in the year of 1850. Does any one have the town clerks address for Montgomery ? Also do you know what years their records go to ? Thanks for your help, Donna Honesdale, PA
Did you find NY census records? I could not locate them there can you send a hyperlink or the address please? Thank you for the notification! Kellie

Hello there, What and where do I obtain a will etc re: John Morris who died in Marbletown in about 1840. He is a rev war guy that is supposed to be my JOHN MORRIS. Re-read his pension application yesterday and there is a slim chnce he is mine. Problem is that would a father with kids in ELMIRA and The FINGER LAKES area stay in ULSTER ? Especially when he once had many business dealings and apparently lived in Havanna , Schuyler. These Morris are tough and there are too many John's and you have to hunt them down to eliminate. But he does say he fought with Hollenbeck and Shoemaker and those are ties. Any help appreciated. Is Whiteplains in Ulster? Last question, what county is Binghamton in? Live in Florida so forgive please. Vanda vanda444@aol.com

If there is an 1870 census index for New York would someone please tell me the families in Orange County which contain Edward QUICK and Anna or Alla COYLE? They had a daughter born in 1877 but do no know where or when they married. Edward was killed in a railroad accident Nov 26, 1878 and is buried in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Port Jervis. I am the lucky owner of a microfilm reader (a 1953 Recordak which I bought at a surplus sale in 1975 for $50.00!) and I ordered some Orange County l870 census from the federal film rental program. Unfortuately, I put the wrong identification number on the film order - I thought I was ordering Port Jervis, but I have other towns in Orange County. However, before I send the film back and reorder, I would like to be sure they weren't in these two rolls of film. Any help will be much appreciated. Hi, Ulster list-- This is not exactly an Ulster or Orange question, but it is a nearby one so I trust that some of you will give it your attention. I've just found out that I may have some ancestors who were baptized and married in Germantown and Claverack, Columbia Co. The time period would be late 1750s for the births and early 1780s for the marriage. Does anyone have any experience in researching that geographic area for that time period? I believe the gentleman was a Palatine and it is possible his bride had some Indian blood. I also believe they went on to Herkimer Co. and then to Onondaga Co. His name was Henrich/Henry PHILIPS/PHILLIPS/PHILIPSE and her name was Jemima or JeMyme or Meime or Minmy or Minna WOOLSY / WOOLSEY / WILSEY / WILTSIE. (I've given my 78 year old, mother who lives in Ulster Co., the assignment of going to the library in Stone Ridge and looking at the 1790 census for Columbia Co. but she may need some help!) Confusing, isn't it!! But please share your thoughts or experience if you have the time. My best to you, Marilyn ( Austin, TX.)

okay everyone..I think I found (with help) some more of my Lockwoods... We believe that our ggggrandfatehr was Abraham (Abram) Lockwood who married Sarah Randall. Abraham dates: 1813-1887, Sarah's 1823-1905. They had : Wilbur born 1840-1913 James W. born 1842-1863 Jane born circa 1845 Mary born circa 1847 Sherman born circa 1850 According to the 1880 census for Woodstock..this family also has: Abram born circa 1857 Chas (short for Charles?) born circa 1860 Walter born circa 1862 I believe Abrams children are related to Philip Lockwood who worked in Stone quarries. Many Lockwoods did. Wilbur married Elizabeth Rules and they had: Martha born circa 1868 james W. born 1869 Mary born 1878 Do any of my new Lockwoods sound familiar?? Thanks!! Michele R. Lockwood
