These Whitaker brothers were in Colesville, NY around 1828. Can anyone tell me what Whitaker line they are from? Joyce Tanno Hansen pandjhansen@home.com MZ
Hi, Does anyone know how "Murderer's Creek" got its name? Is there a story, or is it a corruption of some native or Dutch word? I'm trying to track place the William Drake who md. Eunice Helme. He may have been the same Wm Drake who was listed in Catskill, Albany, NY in the 1790 census and may have been son of William and Abigail (__) Drake of Goshen, Orange, NY. Tentative info on William and Abigail's children is as follows: Hannah Drake, born 28 Feb. 1754, Orange Co. NY James Drake, born 1 Oct. 1755, Orange Co, New York Esther Drake, born 13 April 1758, Orange Co., New York David Grossett Drake, born 1 December 1759, Orange Co. NY William Drake, born 9 June 1763, Orange Co. NY Burgess Drake, born 8 August 1769 Phoebe Drake, born 15 January 1772 Jesse Drake, born 19 July 1775 I would appreciate hearing from anyone who's familiar with this family or with Drakes more generally. I'd be especially interested in hearing from anyone who might help me connect the William, b. 9 June 1763, with the William Drake who md. Eunice Helme/Holmes and is mentioned in the 12-21-1798 will of his mother-in-law, Mary (Williams) Helme of Amenia, Dutchess, NY at the time of her will. The Helme ancestry is well documented, but Ruthe White (of CA) and I have been trying to piece together the Drake side. We look forward to corresponding with anyone with info or advice about Drakes in Orange County. Thanks! Michael O'Leary
I am looking for any information on the Surname Mead in the Wallkill, Highland and/or New Paltz areas. I am also looking for Van Kleeck in the Kingston area. Thanks, Donna
William W. of Middletown, NY had Civil war service. His grandfather, Noah, War of 1812. The father Edward M d age 75, w. d age 77, was Elizabeth McPherson, Scotch-Irish. Ch. Wm W, the oldest b Wawayanda July 1, 1836, he m Amelia A. Mapes b Centerville, her fa Samuel C. her grandfather Eber, her mother Mary A. Holly her fa Richard Holly. Ch William C, Mary Libbie, Addie B and Samuel M. (this is a little confusing - it said ch. of Mrs. Carpenter, I assume also Wm W. This is the last of the biographies of the Carpenters in this book. I have had only one response from this series so am deducting that there is very little interest out there in these families. I also have data regarding the early deeds and mortgage of Or. Co. Carpenters and Wisners which I had thought I might put on the list, but will do that only if I have enough response to make me believe that there is any interest out there to make it worth my effort. This is a big time shot in the dark, but I'm leaving no stone unturned. I am trying to knock down my brick wall. My gggg grandfather was George W. EDDY (I'm betting a nickel that the W. stands for Washington) who was born in 1801 in New York. When he was young, his parents died and he was left in the care of an uncle who was apparently cruel to him. He left and went to sea for 7 years. When he returned, he spent some brief time in North Carolina and then Virginia where he married Lucinda "Lucy" TAYLOR (daughter of Solomon Taylor and Sarah LANGSTON) around 1828-1830. They spent some time in White Co. TN, where my ggg grandfather, John A. EDDY was born and soon moved again and settled in Allen Co, KY. I am guessing that my George's father's name was either George or John, as my George named his first son John A. and his second son, George W. I have been doing some 1800 census lookups in New York and have found a George EDDY living in Ulster Co. This is why I'm looking here. I'm trying to get further back than this. Since I know his parents died when he was young, I'm assuming they were dead by or around 1810 or so. I don't know if there were other siblings of George, who were living with this uncle also or not. Does this sound familiar to anyone out there? Does it fit any family situations at the time. I would like to hear from anyone who has EDDYs during this time. Also, if anyone has any suggestions as to where I might go next I would welcome them? Thank you in advance. I look forward to hearing from you. Amy Leavens Snohomish, WA

I was at the National Archives yesterday and spent some time reading the entire pension file of Revolutionary War soldier, Petrus W. Ostrander. This was about 50+ plus pages, much longer than the National Archives version that they mailed me a few years ago. His wife was Catherine Parcells. They were married at Esopus about 1790 and about 1836, her address is on Perry Street, New York City and about 1855, her address is Greenpoint (Brooklyn). In the Bounty Claim request (1855) she says that she resides part of the year in Greenpoint and part of the year in Hoboken, New Jersey. Also there is a document witnessed by William and Mary Ostrander (again about 1855), does anyone know who this William and Mary is???? Rolene Kiesling
Can someone with and Ulster Co. phone please tell me a current address/phone number for a cemetery (s) in Modena? Also I have census records saying my family lived in Lloyd but the nearest post office was in Modena. Are those two towns bordering each other? I obviously haven't been home in a while (to NY)!! Thanks for any clues, Kellie
