I've posted by surname to PolandBorder and Rootsweb. Where else can I post to get my names out there to hopefully connect with others? I know my parents, gparents and ggparents resided in both NJ & NY but not real sure of locations yet so not sure where to post. Any help would be appreciated. I'd like to make myself a list to keep track of where I've posted so I can track progress. Thanks all. Hi! They may not have records from 1865. I have run across this with several states nto just NY ..In Ny records weren't required to be kept until 1880..now some clerks do have earlier records as do some genealogical societies..but in my research I have found very few records before 1880 in NY..I go by headstones, some newspaper articles, some scribble in family bibles, etc..I haven't found any "papers" with the exception of a naturalization, before 1880 in NY. Anyways..good luck! I have spoken to Audrey Klinkenberg before..she is very, very kind and I am sure if there is a record out there for you, she could probably find it! Happy Hunting!! Michele R. Dear List, I recently spoke with the county clerk in Kingston requesting a death record. I had been told the record was with the surrogate court files. I was told that these files were unreleaseable. The clerk referred me to Ms. Klinkenberg, a genealogical researcher. I also tried the town clerk of Lloyd and New Paltz and was told neither of them had such records. I am seeking the death record of Cornelius DEYO,d. 2 24 1865. He is the son of William DEYO and I need actual proof of parentage. Does anyone know why these records are not available to researchers. Or, does anyone have any other ideas as to how to proceed. Please let me hear from you. I am at KMACinTX@aol.com. Thank you for any suggestions that you may have. Karen

Brooklyn -The funeral of all unclaimed bodies recovered from the ruins of the Brooklyn factory building on State street will take place today at 2 o'clock from teh Union Congregational Church on Hoyt street. All the expenses of interment, which will be at Greenwodd, are borne by the city. The work of rendering the ruins safe for the searchers for bodies will probably not be finished for several days. The inquest in the case of th= e victims will be begun by Coroner MENNINGER this morning. AGAINST THE ELEVATED ROAD Late on the night of Jan. 19, 1882, John D. McAULIFFE ran up to the elevated railroad station at Forty-seventh street and Third avenue. He wa= s in a hurry to catch an approaching trian. The ticket seller was not in th= e box. McAULIFFE put 10 cents on the shelf in front of the box and called t= he attention of the ticket taker to the money. The ticket taker stopped him= , saying that he could not pass without a ticket. McAULIFFE expostulated a= nd while he was talking, the train he wanted to board arrived and left the station. Then he and the ticket taker had a futher discussion which resulted in a fight. The jury gave the plaintiff a verdict for $200 damages. Hello. I am trying to find out if an ancestor of mine definitely served in the civil war or not..family tradition says yes but I have no proof. I sent away for a record and there is one but I can't tell if its mine or not. I am looking for Abraham Lockwood (Abram) The Abraham Lockwood I found served in the 120th regiment N.Y.S. Vol. Inf. Abraham Lockwood was born April 14, 1813 and died Oct 12 1887. He died in Ulster County and lived in Ulster County although I don't know if he was born in Ulster County. Are there any books that I could look through to see if they mention him? Maybe they mention his family and I can connect him to my line. I live in Kansas..can I use interlibrary loan if there are books available to look this up? Thank you all in advance! Michele R. Lockwood

Please allow me to share this: <<Thank you, Richard, for putting the message out about Jean's genealogy papers. There were so many responses! I am thinking of contacting LDS to place them. There is a lot of information about all her different lines which pertain to various locations in the US and Germany. I think more people would benefit if they were in a central location. I assure you they will not go to the dump. I wonder if she had a plan as to what should be done. She got so sick so fast, we never discussed it. I'll let you know what transpires, and I'll see what the LDS people say.>> Also, a friendly remainder for us all to plan AND make arrangements for the dispersal (not disposal) of our collections while we are able. I am searching for information pertaining to ancestors/siblings of my grandmother, Gertrude Seymour Bradley(1871-1926). She was the daughter of Charles and Adeline Schoonmaker Seymour who were born in Mondena, Ulster Co. NY. The Bureau of Vital Statistics for the City of Newburgh, NY, showed on her death certificate that she was born in Newburgh, but they couldn't find a birth certificate for her. She was married to Albert E. Bradley and they resided in Newburgh, NY. They had 3 children: Della, Frank and Winifred Gertrude, who was my mother. Would really appreciate any help or suggestions! Hi all. I was wondering if anyone had acess to a Cemetary Listing, or the Cemetary itself called Lakehill Cemetary (on the Dry Brook road). I found reference in a DAR book to my Kelly/Kelley family and to date, need the following: There is a grave for Susan Kelly, wife of William J. Kelly. Next to her is supposed to be a headstone for William J, but the DAR book does not give any dates, etc. and I was wondering if there is any way to tell if he actually was buried there or if his dates were ever put on headstone. He died after Susan (who died in 1890). There are more Kellys in this plot also- some that I've been trying over the years to prove were related to William. Can anyone help? If anyone has Kelly/Kelley families in NY State, please check my web site out! There are lots of Kelly info posted. http://members.tripod.com/~Reneewr/Index-2.html Thanks! Dear List, Is anyone working on the surname TRICKEY? Does any of this sound familiar? Christopher TRICKEY left Orange County for Canada between 1790-1800. Jeremiah TRICKEY was in Orange County in 1790. David TRICKEY, who lived in Orange County and had 8 children, one being Stephen TRICKEY who moved to Town of Bristol, Ontario County, NY, John TRICKEY, also born in Orange County, possible brother of Stephen. (but not the John that is being looked for) William TRICKEY, son of David Trying to connect a John TRICKEY who married Huldah BURLEY (21 yrs younger) and lived in Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada in 1861 and before as a single man. (Hannah BURLEY TRICKEY married second Louis CHASE and had a daughter Nell in 1874) Family lore has it, that John died in Canandaigua, Ontario County, NY. Two TRICKEY families lived in Canandaigua at the time of his death in the 1860's and were all from Orange County. Also, in a letter written in 1939, family lore was that sons TRICKEY, Samuel and other name unknown, left home at an early age because they didn't approve of the fathers new and younger wife. Any leads on this family to help put them back together would be greatly apprieciated! Thanks, Sheila

The value may be in at least noting the date that some of these people were in Or/Ul Co. and who their neighbors were. B # 183 July 1, 1714 recorded 1724 Samuel Clowes of Jamaica sells to SOLOMAN CARPENTER of Jamaica (undivided land and other small tracts) bounded by high hills Highlands, Capt. John Evans on N by Ulster/Or. Co. W by high hills that aare E of Minisink, S NY/NJ line. Wit: Wm. Beekman and Dirk Brinkerhofe. Signed by Samuel Clowes, Judge Christopher Denn. (The History of Or. Co. has a statement that in the family of Soloman Carpenter is a deed where he sells to John Carpenter - I did not find that deed in these films, neither in the index or the films. The statement further says that this John Carpenter sold land to his son John in about 1775. There is a deed where Ruth Carpenter sells land to her son, John, about that time. I will get to that later.)
