I'm looking for information on when the Ellenville Reformed Dutch Church was started. My ancestors were members of the Wawarsing RDC up thru 1818. Their first two children were baptised there. They didn't move away but none of the rest of the kids were baptised there. They lived in Ellenville so I thought maybe they switched churches when the one openned in Ellenville. Thanks, Sharlene
I only have a Baptism Certificate for Grandmother Mary Cecilia Kelly, Sept. 4, 1878 child of John Kelly and Susan Doran . Church St Peters Rosendale. Can anyone help me? Cecelia
Any clues on the origins of Mary Stewart Doty Martin? She was born 3 Dec 1796 and died 5 Jul 1851. Mary Doty, widow, was the second wife of Jeptha Martin, married 14 Jan 1817 at Sussex, Sussex Co. NJ according to the marriage record. Another source said Jeptha married as his second wife a Miss Stewart whose relatives live near Gardnersville, NY. Thanks! Becky Kruse Minneapolis
Is there anyone out there that may have a World Family Tree Maker CD #8 that can do a lookup for me? I'm looking for one Wellington Snyder.......I have no other information for date of birth, who he married or when or where he died. Please share all that is recorded about him and his ancestors and/or descendants. Thanks, Mr. "D"
Hi Barbara and List Members, I'm not familiar with obtaining vital records from Ulster co. or towns. Vital records for NYS became mandatory about 1880. The vital records for all of New York State are indexed on microfilm at Albany. Once you have the certificate number you can complete a form and include $11 and order the record from Albany. Here's the catch. If you mail the form in, you can wait 8-12 months. If the form is dropped off, you will have it within a week. New York City records are archived at the Municipal Archives in NYC. If I am wrong, I hope someone will correct me. Elsie -- Elsie Saar saare@banet.net West Hurley and Austerlitz, NY
Marilyn, One other thing; I have an Elizabeth Meeker b. abt 1765 d. 10 Sep 1824 who married Ananias Valentine b. 1760 at Newburgh NY m. 15 Oct 1786 at Goshen NY and d. 17 Jan 1825 at Goshen NY. I'd be interested if you could help me trace back more ancestors of either of these folks. They both appear on my "Ahnentafel" page as direct ancestors of mine. Thanks, Steve
Marilyn, I don't have any specific Vail connection, but one of the research papers I got from the Orange County Genealogical Society was authored by Elmire L Conklin and reads as follows: "It appears that the Allisons, Sawyers and Vails, all living on Shelter Island (Long Island) in the early 1700s, probably began land speculation in Orange County about the same time. It is known that Samuel Vail of Southold moved first to Shelter Island and then in 1741 to Goshen." The report then goes on to talk about some Sawyers that moved to Orange County but I can't find any more references to Vails. I hope this helps. Steve Sawyer in AZ
Could someone direct me to the Hardenburg Historical Museum and/or Society or Association. I'm not sure of the name......I only recently heard of it. Thanks, Mr. "D"
Phoebe, Interesting reference to Elizabeth Bradner. I have some info on her since it was long thought that she was the wife of my ancestor Major James Sawyer of Goshen, NY. Later research showed she was actually wife of John Stewart. My papers indicate her father was Rev. John Bradner (first rev. of the local Presbyterian Church). She had a sister Colville born ca. 1722-25. The source cited is "Descendents of Rev. John Bradner" by Frank W. Bradner. Elizabeth is shown as the 8th and youngest child of Rev Bradner and Christian Colville of Orange Co. NY. It also lists the 8 children born to Elizabeth and John Stewart (or Steward), which you probably already have. Steve

Hi Steve-- I'm not Phoebe but she and I have already corresponded a bit on this subject. I am so very interested in the Bradners in Orange Co. during this time frame. Did your research happen to turn up anything on a Bradner and VAIL connection? I am looking for one, since my 2nd great-grandfather was Benoni BRADNER VAIL, who was born in 1801 in the Town of Minisink, Orange Co., NY, married Fanny ARMSTRONG in 1826 and died in Susquehanna Co., PA in 1869. I feel very strongly that he was related, one way or another, to the John BRADNER who was the first pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Goshen. The reason I feel this is so, in addition to the middle name, is that a cousin, now deceased, of my dad's compiled all kinds of information on our family and in this compilation she included a story of ancestors meeting in Scotland and eloping to America, essentially the same story as John Bradner and Christian Colville. The main other surnames that are connected with my VAILS are Meeker, Dunning, and Conkling. Also, according to a letter I have of a great aunt, written in the late 1800s, ". . . the Vails were connected to the MILLS and COTTONs". Perhaps that is a clue--although I've not figured it out yet! So, if you can help with this mystery, I sure would appreciate it! Regards to you, Marilyn Hough Stern, writing to you tonight from a warm Austin, TX. Looking for anything I can find on AARON SIMKINS, b. Dec 1, 1817, in ULSTER CO, NY, according to family information. I assume he may have been son of SILAS SIMKINS, listed Rochester twp., Ulster CO, in 1820 and 1830 census, before moving on to Chemung County by 1840. He married Eliza M. BURT (b. Mar 14, 1820, Berkshire CO, MA) on Sep. 14, 1843 (don't know where but presume somewhere in NY), and they were in Branch CO, MI, for the rest of their lives. Aaron d. May 17, 1877, and Eliza on Feb 12, 1881. All dates are unverified info from family records. Anybody know anything about the family. Many thanks for any help. Reply E-mail address Longino@juno.com. Hi List, I'm an Ulster County resident. If you need Ulster County phone numbers, etc, write to me. Town of Rochester, Clerk's Office, Granite Road, Accord, NY 12404, 914-626-7384. I think the Town of Rochester lies between Shandaken and Stone Ridge, more out Stone Ridge-Accord way. Good luck, all! -- Elsie Saar saare@banet.net West Hurley and Austerlitz, NY
