Check current phone books for the Orange and Ulster County areas today, and I think you will find a lot of families with the surname Wolven. I haven't lived in that area for some time, but there were quite a few in Orange County (adjacent to Ulster) in the 1960's and 1970's. His daughter Annatje Hannah Wolven married William Rose from Shandaken Township, Ulster Co., December 9, 1787. There is reference to a John Wolf (Wolven) who might have been Johann Jacobus Wolven, in the Katsbaan Reformed Church, Kingston, N.Y. They were originaly from Columbia Co., N.Y. This is maybe where the name came from. The Roses were around Woodstock, Colechester, New Pltze, and Pine Hill. I would think that the Wolven might be around Kinston in 1775. Ann Marie Rose

Hello, All, I understand families with the DUMONT surname settled in Ulster County. I am looking for Samuel DUMONT, born 1802. He emigrated to Ontario, Canada at least by 1825. I have no idea of his parents names, but he named his children Eliza, Louisa, Mary, William, Harriet and Elmore. There was a grandson named Samuel Arthur. If anyone has a clue to offer, I would be most grateful. Thankyou. Adrienne Adrienne Sherrin Kelowna, B.C., Canada

As a fan of Breweriana (history of brewing and related materials), I seem to recall that there was a Stephan family involved in the early history of brewing in the Rondout creek area of Kingston. If you are in any way related, or have knowledge of the family's involvement in brewing, would you be so kind as to contact me please? Many thanks, Susan
My thanks to everyone that answered my request for the township of Ellenville. Kraftyone1@aol.com(Jean)
Ellenville is in Town of Wawarsing. There is one cemetery with the name Ellenville, there may be others in the community. Bill Staples
Can someone please tell me what township Ellenville NY is in. Thank you Kraftyone1@aol.com. (Jean)
Hannah Johnson, said to have been born in Delaware County (but her parents appear to have been from Ulster County), married a man from near the Canadian border in Franklin County NY in 1826. Can anyone tell me or suggest how someone from Franklin County and someone from Delaware or Ulster County where Johnsons appear to have most of their history, might have met? Was something happening in Ulster/Delaware that might have lured a young man that way in the mid-1820s? To the best of my knowledge there were no family ties in the area until this marriage occurred. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. caroljo . Thanks. caroljo
