Searching for evidence of a James Forman and Jane Watson, parents of Freelove Forman, born 06 Aug 1744, Esopus, Ulster Co., NY. Freelove married David Lyon, a 2nd Lt in the New York Militia. My interest is in the Foreman and Watson genealogy ascending to the immigrants. Thanks, Ron Yielding Palm Springs, CA
>>As a fan of Breweriana (history of brewing and related materials), I seem to recall that there was a Stephan family involved in the early history of brewing in the Rondout creek area of Kingston. If you are in any way related, or have knowledge of the family's involvement in brewing, would you be so kind as to contact me please? Many thanks, Susan << Susan, Yes, The Stephan Brewery, formerly VON BECK Brewery, was located in South Rondout, I believe, and run by Frederick Stephan and his sons, George, Maurice, and finally, my ggrandfather, Charles Stephan. I am at a standstill with my Goldsmith family. Any advise or information you could share would be gratefully appreciated. I know very little about her early years, but believe she was married in Ulster, lived there, then Chemung, then to Cayuga then on to Ohio where they were in Richland co. and finally settled in Delaware Co., OH. There was a Jeremiah Goldsmith in Ulster Co. for a time and have tried to work on that angle as her father, but have really not come up with anything. I was only basing my assumption on the fact that Lydia's youngest son was Jeremiah. This is what I know about her family: LYDIA1 GOLDSMITH was born about 1777 in Ulster Co or Suffolk Co., NY??, and died 29 August 1853 in Berlin Twp, Delaware Co., OH. She married CHARLES DEWITT, son of WILLIAM DEWITT and SUSANNAH CHAMBERS. He was born 11 August 1769 in Ulster Co., New York, and died 10 February 1854 in Berlin Twp., Delaware Co., OH. Children of LYDIA GOLDSMITH and CHARLES DEWITT are: i. NORMAN4 DEWITT. ii. WILLIAM CLINTON DEWITT, b. 11 April 1807, Ulster County,New York; d. 13 May 1883, Forest, Hardin County, Ohio; m. All, NOTE -- If the separate index of this source is consulted, no entry for this surname will be found though, in fact, the source does list these entries on the pages indicated. To my mind, this implies that the separate index should not be trusted to be complete in its inclusion of other surnames of interest. Hi all, The 1800 census of Ulster County included five Rhea households --- Mary, Robert, Matthew, David, and James. My ancestor, Robert, went on to Ontario County at least by 1830. If anyone on this list has interest in any member of this Rhea family, I would like to compare notes. Carmen Finley finleyc@sonoma.edu
All, The following cemeteries were in Wawarsing in 1931, according to "Old Gravestones of Ulster County, NY" . This is one of my brick walls. Can anyone provide help? Need further information about a ROBERT SMITH, said to have been born in Scotland, and died in Cazenovia (Madison County NY) 18 March 1830 (one source indicates he was 105; another that he was 96 at the time of his death). It is said that he was married in one of the counties north of NYC -- perhaps Green, Orange, or Ulster. ???? So far I've found nothing. WIFE's name may have been BETHIAH? Said to have come from a rather prominent family. No further details on this lady. THEIR CHILDREN (not necessarily in order and birthplace unknown for any of them): JAMES; JONATHAN; JOHN; ROBERT who married Bathsheba Barnes (Bathsheba married Ephraim Keyes after Robert died); MARY; DAVID; SAMUEL; CALEB; NANCY (thought to have married a Graves or Grames); ABIGAIL; GEORGE (married Sarah [Sally] Lyon and died 26 Aug 1836 -- buried Pleasant Valley Cem on Buck's Hill east of Nelson -- Sally didn't remarry); PHEBE (thought to have married someone named Mann). The tiniest detail on any of these folks would be helpful. Thanks so much. helpful. Thanks so = much.
Elsie The birth record of his son just said 'Milton, NY' not what country. I saw someway that there has been at least 5 towns call Milton over the years. Some got rename. I am surprised that you didn't see some Dimsey's in Ulster and Dutchess counties though, there are a number of them in the 1850 and 1860 census index. Well thanks for looking I appreciate it Victor

Looking for info on Edith L. Brooks b 1871 d 1935 married to Theodore Gates Elliott b 1867 d 1940 both are buried in Highland Cemetery. Theodore Elliott was the son of George K. Elliott b 1827 d 1907 and Olive Northrup b 1831 d 1916 also buried in Highland Cemetery. They are my grandparents and G grandparents any info would be appreciated. Email CAPTTOM3@AOL.COM Thank You TOM
Virginia Yes I have already look at the census index on the ancestry website, but they don't show any entry for 1870, just 1850 and 1860. Since my ggrandfather Eli Dimsey was born in Milton,NY in 1866 he wouldn't show up these. I am told he stayed in NY until he was an adult so he should appear in the 1870 census. Victor

Someone requested a birth record from Milton, NY for 1866. Milton is in the Town of Marlborough, but birth records will NOT exist before 1880, when NY began requiring the registration of births, marriages and deaths. There are no exceptions to this, except for the scant records recorded in 1847,48 and 49. You'll have to try to see if there are any church records.
