    1. Van Wye or Gladden family in early 1700s
    2. Dear List: Greetings from sunny but cool CA, where it rained here on Aug. 6 for only the third time in recorded weather history. I am searching for any information about Van Wye family colonists living in Ulster County during the 1700s. In particular I am searching for Arthur Van Wye and his first wife Temperance Gladden who may have been there from 1720s through 1750 or so. She probably died in the late 1740s or early 1750s. His first name had sometimes been shown as Aert or Aerd. His surname has been seen in many, many variations with Van Wey, Van Wyen, Van Way and Van Wy being common but truly there are over 20 variations seen. Thanks for any leads, information and suggestions. Gail Van Wye

    3. My Ulster co connection is Lucinda Barner, b 16 Nov 1832 in Esopus, Ulster Co NY. She was married 26 feb 1852 in Hannibal, Oswego co, NY to John Allen. She died 22 May 1917 in Hannibal and is buried there. Her father was John Barner (maybe John George Woester Barner). Believe he was b abt 1810 in Ulster co, maybe of parents Johannes Barner and Jane Frear. John (G.W.) Barner married Sarah or Susan or Sarah Susan Adkins abt 1829 in Esopus. John G. W. and Sarah Susan and family were in Hannibal in the 1850 census (as "Barnun"). Would really appreciate any help anyone can give me re. Lucinda's parents and their families. I can share info on my line of Lucinda's offspring. Thanks -- Allen Russell

    2. Someone else owns a book "Townships in the United States" book so I am looking to buy one, too. I need townships all over U.S., not just NY. I checked at my public library and they do not have it, so I am going to look in "Books in Print" at my bookstore and order it if they don't stock it. Margie

I also go to French's 1860 Gazetteer of NYS and the supplemental index of missing geographic names for the difficult queries. Unfortunately, THAT is out of print and unavailable for sale. If your library doesn't have one, the interlibrary loan system should be able to produce it. Stay cool whwerever you are . . . 2. Good morning, Yes, Florida is in the Town of Warwick, Orange Co., NY. I don't know if there is a list of townships in existence--I guess you could try the NY State Genweb site--but I recommend purchasing, probably for under $20., DeLorme's New York State Atlas & Gazetteer. It's a wonderful, large book of maps of the whole state and includes all the towns, villages, wide-spaces in the road, back roads, etc. Writing to you from another hot day in Austin, TX--Marilyn Hough Stern In a message dated 8/1/99 3:08:44 AM Central Daylight Time, Frank1124@aol.com writes: > Florida is south of Goshen on Rt 17a in Orange Co, NY. > The NY county boundaries have been stable since 1860 per the Census Maps of > the US. > As for Township - try Warwick. 3. Noticed the names you are researchng Pegeen and thought I would see if we have any VanVleet/VanVliet/VanFleets in common. Peter Van Vleet (changed the spelling from Van Vliet) was born 4/15/1788 in Ulster Co. NY, and married Hannah Critz. Their children were Anthony, Sarah, John C., Cornelia Anna, William, Louise, Marth Jane, Wellington, Phoebe, Leonora and Peter Van Vleet, Jr. This family moved from NY to Ohio, Iowa and then were in Knox Co., Illinois abt 1850. Would appreciate any information you or anyone else has on this family. I have quite a bit on the the decendents, but have never been able to link Peter any further back. 1. Merritt Davis, died 1849, Dutchess Co., NY
    2. I am seeking information about Merritt DAVIS. This gentleman died in 1849 in Pawling, Dutchess Co., NY. His entire estate was willed to his brother, Jonathan, of Pawling. The witnesses to his will were Selah (?) T. Jordan of Shawaugunk, Ulster Co. and Philip Airs of New Paltz, Ulster Co.. Because of this I suspect that Merritt Davis was originally from Ulster County, NY. Does anyone have information relating to this gentleman and his family? I believe that Merritt was the father of my great grandmother, Laura Davis Washburn (1817 - 1859). Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob Peck
