When I sent a previous message offering help with the Freer family genealogy, I should have mentioned that the history I have available also covers the phonetic spelling of the Freer name: Freear, Fraer, Frair, Frayer and Fryer. And I'm amazed that 14 inquiries have arrived in just one day! Terri Freer Wilson
Hi! Am looking for the location of the town of Mamakating. Just found that my HALL family was living there in 1790. Would someone help me place just where town was/is located? Thank you very much, Phyllis Hembree Twain Harte, CA.
Hi everyone, What am I missing in the following URL? The requested URL /~hopefarm/ucc01a_j.htm was not found on this server. Thank you! Michele
Seeking verification of the birth of Adele (Della) ROSENCRANS in Walden, NY, around 1897. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. EThorpeJr@aol.com.
Hi, all, new subscriber with a too-common name to search. However, I'll not give up. Am searching for a link to my gggrandfather, Charles CLINE. According to census info I have compiled, Charles was born in 1855 in NY, married to a Sarah (believe her maiden name was HOWSON (perhaps HOVSON or HOFFMAN). Charles indicated his father was born in NY as well (except for one census entry that states PA). This is the only info I have as to where the Clines may have been. A marriage entry which I believe may be my Clines, from St. Johns Dutch Reformed Church in St. Johnsville, Montgomery County, NY, indicates a Charles Cline & Sarah Hoffman were married in February, 1878. Am in the process of requesting that info to see if any light can be shed as to whether this may be my gggrandparents. The next information I have is an 1880 census entry for Charles CLINE & Sarah, with daughter Lillie (2), in Sac County, Iowa. Next I find them in the 1885 census for Knox County, Nebraska, with two more daughters, Mary & Viola (which is my g-aunt's name) & a son Frederick (my g-uncle's name). My grandfather was born in Knox County in 1886. After that, I have lost them. So, my request to you all is if anyone on this list knows if any CLINES/HOVSON, etc. were in this county. Am assuming that the Clines were of German ancestry. According to census entries, as well as a family story (tongue-in-cheek), Sarah was born in England in 1855. Would appreciate any help you can lend. Thanks in advance. Beth Rutherford Turner, OR
Good Evening All. I am a new suscriber to your list and have joined as I have recently discovered a possible New York connection for at least one of my forebears who emigrated to the USA around the turn of the century and who appear to have disappeared! My name is Mike Greatorex and am interested in the following marriage which I believe took place somewhere in New York (either city or state?) around 1909. The marriage was between John C Greatorex and Louella Baxter. Louella was born in 1890, John C Greatorex gave his age on the 1910 Census as 23. I have no record of the actual Census record as this was passed to me by a third party who has not answered (as yet) my request for further information. Louella's parents were Grant and Charlotte Anne Baxter but I have no information as to where they lived, however I do know that they were both buried at the following location which may give a clue as to their home area. Burial: Christ Epis. Cem, Marlboro, Ulster Co., NY This will obviously mean a lot more to you than it does to me at this moment as in common with most Brits when I think of New York, I think of the City, ie the Big Apple etc. Just to explain, back in 1907 my Gt Gt Grandmother Ann Greatorex made a Will listing as beneficiaries 6 of her grandchildren identified as "now resident in America" . One of these Grandchildren was named as John Charles Greatorex, hence my interest in this marriage. Its this branch of the family I'm looking for now This may well end up being a wild goose chase but its the only lead I have at this moment, so I feel its worthwhile trying to chase it up. NB: my informant also has evidence that Louella Greatorex, nee Baxter may have married a Mr Lewis at a later date. Now whether this means that John C Greatorex died or got divorced I do not know. Just a further twist!! Thats all I can think off. If any of the suscribers can offer suggestions etc, I would be most gratefull. Mike Greatorex Harrogate North Yorkshire England. Looking for all GREATOREX's from - Blyth/Notts, Sheffield/Yorkshire /Philadelphia and New York USA.
If anyone needs help with the Freer family genealogy, I'd be glad to help as I have the Freer family history available. Also, if you are stumped by an old name of a town, I can possibly help with that, also. Terri Freer Wilson josani@flash.net

Can anyone tell me if John & Libbie Hendrickson are listed as laying in eternal rest together in what cemetery in Ulster County. My g grandmother was born in 1883 so from this date on is all I know. I don't even know where she was born as her death certificate states New York. Her name was Ruth and her husband was Norval Eck, who was born in Warwarsing. I know my grandmother was born in Napanoch. Is this Ulster County? Thanks to anyone who can give me a clue. Libbie was Elizabeth Mansfield. Thanks Kathy
Mike, I'll look this marriage up for you next week at Ulster County Office Building. If they were married anywhere in Ulster County during that time period, it will be on file. Pat Rice Cooper- In the 1850 census, my Serepta Rice was a child at home with father- James, mother- Eliza, and brother- Isaac in Granby of Oswego Co, NY. In the 1855 NY census, James and Eliza were still in Granby with Serepta C., Isaac M., Synthia A.(census' spelling), and Charles A. James doesn't show a birth county, but Eliza, Serepta, and Isaac show Herkimer Co, Synthia shows Cayuga (I think), and Charles shows Onondaga. These are the only sibs I show, and I have no further record of James and Eliza. By the 1870 census, Serepta and husband, Henry B. James are in Hannibal, Oswego Co.,NY with children Carrie (my grandmother) b. Cayuga Co, Stella and Frank both b. Oswego co. This family then went to Kansas. I don't have anything on Isaac, Synthia or Charles. Perhaps someone with knowledge of them can help me to trace James and Eliza. -- [ From: Richard Frisbie * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] -- Yes, I do have it - Thanks Frank Sloat. Poucher & Terwilliger - "Old Gravestones of Ulster County" It is a reprint from the genealogical society $51 for the book and $12 for the index. The other, "Ulster County Cemeteries" is also from them and is also $51. It locates and lists the the cemeteries by township, with the stone inscriptions listed alphabetically. An index (included) is also online to read and/or search. -- [ From: Richard Frisbie * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] -- RE: is (there) a cemetery listing for Ulster Co? I can only suggest to the list again that you look at my website. Besides the NYGenWeb Ulster info, the commercial section contains the TOC of "Ulster County Cemeteries" which lists the cemeteries by town, and the index is online to read and/or search. (Is that where the Family Tree Maker site is searching it, or do they have it online too?) I also list the current phone book information for the cemeteries. The link: http://www.hopefarm.com/sampl03.htm allows you access to everything available on the site. Richard
-- [ From: Richard Frisbie * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] -- Dear Michele R. Lockwood and list I called the Woodstock Town Clerk on your behalf. She said the easiest thing was to write them (including an SASE) with your request and stating your relationship to the people in question. She will reply with the information available and the cost of the copies of the death certificate ($10 each.) It seems routine, straighforward and not an imposition at all.
