How can I obtain a death transcript from Ulster County Registrar's office? I need records for people who died in Lloyd and New Paltz. May I please have the address? What information would I have to include (besides the obvious!) and do you know the charge? Thank you very much! Hello listers-- I wondered if there is anyone out there researching William Borland in the early history of Ulster Co., say early to mid-1700s. This is a name I have run across twice in researching my John McNeal (listed as a brother-in-law in a will), and wondered if there was anyone who was doing research on that family and had some info they would be willing to share. Daniel Butterfield is another name listed in this will whose descendants I would be interested in corresponding with. As you can see, I'm getting a tad desperate . . . ;-) --Debbie Cowman dlcowman@juno.com

Terri: Thanks for the Frear offer. An abbreviated list of births from the "Low Church of Klyne Esopus", Ulster Park, NY sent to me by Dorothy DuMond in 1990 showed that Jane Frear and Johannes Barnet(should have been Barner) had John Geo. Woester on 5-31-1811. This John G. W. married Susan (or Sarah) Adkins and in 1832 they had Lucinda Barner, my great grandmother. The name Barner is confirmed by Lucinda's death certificate, signed by her son. In the late 1840s J. G. W. and Susan moved to Hannibal Twp, Oswego co, NY. Lucinda married my great grandfather in 1852. There was another Barner on this church birth list. Simon Barner/Catrina Wiest had three births listed between 1796 and 1805. I would appreciate any help you could give with Jane Frear, Johannes Barner, or Susan (Sarah) Adkins. I am relatively new to the art of on-line genealogy research but having read many of the communiques- I know that I am about to embark on a very exciting journey! Everyone who responds seems to be so genuinely friendly and helpful! I am hoping that a fellow family history buff can help me over the brick wall I've reached. My gg grandfather, George Graham Decker married Catherine Hasbrouck More in 1849. They were residents of Margaretville. Catherine was the daughter of Alexander and Sarah(Church)More, the granddaughter of Robert and Susannah (Fellows)More and the gg grandaughter of John and Bessie (Tyler? Taylor?)More. Alexander More was from Roxbury, Robert More was one of the earliest settlers of Delaware County. My ULSTER question -is regarding Catherine's middle name of Hasbrouck. Logic tells me that she would be so named because of some family connection to the Hasbrouck line. Can any one help me link the families? I am also related to and have direct paternal lines to the family of William Bradford (Plymouth), Rhoda Carver Barton (wife of Gen.William Barton) and John Coit (arrived in America early 1600's). I am also seeking information of my father's maternal great grandparents, Annette Moses and Thompson Hersee. On the maternal side the lines are Roth, Saxe, Schmidt, Schoellkopf, Mannory and French. The last 4-5 generations of both paternal and maternal lines settled in either Buffalo,or the area surrounding what is now Erie County. Thank you for any help that might be offered. I will be happy to share any information that I have as well. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com

So, to all of you that were kind enough to help me locate Mamakating I want to send a BIG THANK YOU. This goes to Terri, Marian, Ozzie, E Thorpe Jr, CapeCodBak and to Marilyn, who also took the time to send some history of the town. Oh, E. General observation concerning information from cemeteries: I realize that cemeteries have no obligation to provide information for Genealogical Researchers and that they are not 'in business' to support us. Having made that observation, I am amazed at the variety of responses that one receives from cemeteries. In the last few years I have received the following; 1. To a request for 'all interments with surname ****, I received 18 pages with photocopies of record cards containing all names of those buried in any plot containing that surname. Including a request for .10 per copy. 2. A form to fill out for a copy of individual interment cards, at $17.00 per name. 3. Copies of indidual name interment cards at $15 for the first name and $3 for each additional name, ordered at the same time. 4. Listing of an individuals interment record with no mention of fee. It seems that some cemeteries have come to the realization that all this family history frenzy has created an opportunity to make some money.
Hi, Phyllis, I am not sure where the line is drawn between Ulster and Sullivan Counties but Wurtsboro is the town seat with the town office located there. It may well be in Sullivan, which was part of Ulster until 1808, I believe. Ozzie
