    3. Are there obituaries available for the 1850s in Ulster Co., or was that too early? If they are available, where could I find a copy for one at? I am looking for an obit for a Cornelius DAVIS, who probably died in the early 1850s. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Susan Seifert mal316@ix.netcom.com

    2. William Staples
    3. I have photocopies of a few pages from the church records. They also had a cemetery, which is listed in 'Old Gravestones of Ulster'. The records were supposed to have come from an LDS film but I have been unable to identify the film. The pages I have list many people in the church, baptisms, etc. The time frame is 1820-1840 vicinity. Listed are many of the old names in Marlboro. I don't know how large the document is or how long a time frame is covered. 'Beers' Atlas (1875) shows a church at the intersection of Lattintown Road in Lattintown. One of the pages has what looks like a stamp of the New York Hist. and Biol. Society, that is likely who has the original. Bill S

    3. Dear Victor, I know from the minutes of the Warwick Baptist Association that there was an active Baptist Church in "Latintown", Marlborough in 1825 with about 30 members. Eld. William Connelly was pastor. I dont know how long the church continued. Does anyone have information? 3. I just found out that my great-grandfather, whose death certificate said he was born in NY state, said on a 1910 census that he was born in Ireland and naturalized in 1875. I'm not sure where he was living at the time, but he was in Rondout(now Kingston),NY at some period of his life before he was married. Could anyone find out if he was naturalized in Kingston or Ulster County in 1875? I'm trying to find out where in Ireland he was from before I travel there on September 5th. Thanks for any help. 3. Dear ?: I saw your message regarding Snyder name on the Ulster List. My ancestors lived in the Kingston, Saugerties area. A gggAunt named Rachel Miller b 1833 d 1918 left an estate to her nieces and nephews. One of which was listed as "Ida Snyder of Brooklyn". I have not yet figured out how any Snyder's are related to my Miller/Hommel/Burnett families. BUT -- I also have some OLD photo albums -- most of the pictures don't have names but before she died, my great aunt did write in the names she new and possibly some were already written in but -- the point is there are 2 pictures of children with the names Theresa Snyder and Arthur Snyder. These are studio photos not tin types. So I figure the are probably mid-late 1800s. Do any of these names mean anything to you? Look forward to hearing from you again. I understand that it's possible they stayed where they were but the county changed. Where would I look for their marriage record and then, when I find out Anna Maria's surname, their birth records? Only four children survived to adulthood, but I have all their names and dates and place of death from family bible entries. This does not mention where they are buried nor does it say where the parents died, only when. Would appreciate a shove in the right direction.

    1. Regarding Vital Statistics, City Of Kingston, Ulster
    2. Marilyn & John
    3. Hello Abby, Kellie, and all, I just telephoned the Registrar's office in the "City" of Kingston, and was told: Their records begin with "July, 1881." "New York State's record keeping begins with 1881." Again, in some individual "older towns" they have some records going back further and for whatever reason, "those were not filed with the state." This is what I was just told. Another avenue to explore if known, is the church records. They can go back further. Still another avenue to explore is the Genealogical Society for the County. i.e. Ulster County Genealogical Society has a wealth of information in their library, much to their credit and hard work. Also, local Libraries. Kellie, for Lloyd and Highland, the Elting Library is wonderful. Ulster Co. Genealogical Society: P.O.Box 536, Hurley, New York 12443 Elting Memorial Library in New Paltz: 93 Main Street, New Paltz, NY 12561, Telephone: (914) 255-5030 Richard Frisbie at Hope Farm Press in Saugerties, New York, has a list of various libraries and genealogical societies. http://www.hopefarm.com/ulstrhst.htm The above URL many not be the exact to find the various Libraries, etc., but scouting around his site, will give you information on libraries and societies. Check out the: http://www.hopefarm.com/hotlist.htm#genealogy One of the 'fun' gee whiz facts I found in earlier research is this. If a traveling doctor was at hand during the birth of a child, death of an individual, he may not have recorded it then and there, but instead, in the next town or two he visited. What was the next "town(s)" is anyone's guess! >From past experience in researching, I have found the above to be true. If Lady Luck shines upon us, we can in some cases find older records in the individual Town Clerk's offices. In the "City" of Kingston, there is a Registrar of Vital Statistics. All other are Town Clerks, as Ray said. Sorry I didn't clarify that. Thanks Ray for your message as follows: A clarification on the exchange about a County Registrar of Vital Statistics -- there ain't any such animal. New York collects birth, death and marriage records at the town, city or village level. Registrars of vital statistics in Towns and Villages are the town or village clerks. Cities, like Kingston, do have a separate registrar, so the Registrar for Vital Statistics in Kingston is just for the City of Kingston. So yes, contact the persons given in the answer in Lloyd and New Paltz (with New Paltz, you'll have to consider both the town and the village -- the record could be in either). The village clerk address: Village Clerk, Village of New Paltz, PO Box 877, New Paltz, NY 12561 phone: 914/255/0130 So to Abby, Kellie, and all .... I wish you all the best of luck in the State of New York. Marilyn

    1. WARD FAMILY
    2. Hi Listers, I am looking for any descendants of Benjamin Ward who lived in Ulster County in the late 1800s. He had one daughter, Ida, that I know of, who married a Raymond Every and they lived in Port Ewen. Does anyone have these names in their files? Please respond privately to Don Pratt at mardontpa@aol.com. Thanks.

    2. Marilyn & John
    3. Hi Kellie, Joan Van Loan Registrar of Vital Statistics 1 Garraghan Drive Kingston, NY 12401 Telephone: (914) 331-0080 The Request for Death Transcript form (if going in person) requires the following information; if writing to her, she would need mention of this as well. Name of Deceased: Date of Death: Purpose for which this record is required: I wrote in "genealogy" Number of Copies: Did Deceased die within City Limits of City of Kingston? Yes or No (A couple others I inquired about, I didn't know. I just put in a ? mark. They were not in their records) Died at: (if known) For example: At home, In Hospital, ... What was your relationship to deceased? In What Capacity are you acting? (I left that blank) If Attorney: Name & Relationship of your client to deceased: (Was N/A) Your Signature Your address Date If your relative(s) record is on file there, the fee is $10.00 each, cash if in person, or money order. If they have the record, they type up a "Certified Transcript of Death" which gives name, registered number, date of death, Residence Address, Date of Birth, age, Never Married, Married or Separated, Widowed or Divorced, Spouse (if wife, maiden name) Social Security No., If Veteran, Name of War, Occupation, Birthplace, Father's Name and Place of Birth, Mother's Maiden Name and Place of Birth, Place of Death, Cause of Death, Medical Attendant, Place of Burial or Cremation, Funeral Director, and Informant. Some of this information above, may not have been given or known at the time of death. They stamp it "For Genealogical Research Only" There is a possibility that the Registrar of Vital Statistics in Kingston, may not have records for those who actually died in Lloyd or New Paltz. Those records could be obtained from the individual "towns." In Lloyd: Town Clerk's Office, 12 Church, "Hld," I believe Hld stands for Highland, NY 12528 Telephone: (914) 691-8011 In New Paltz: Town Clerk & Tax Collector, 130 N. Chestnut, New Paltz, NY (914) 255-0100 Some towns charge different fees. Perhaps writing and/or calling first, would be best. As was one case with the Town of Rochester, in Accord, NY, I was told "the fee was $11.00, whether or not they had the actual record!" And as always, the SASE when writing. Good Luck .. 3. Can anyone tell me if the 1870 census is fully indexed. It seems that it is missing families. I see surnames that appear in the 1850 and 1860 index disappear in the 1870 index and reappear in latter census or other records. Victor
