    1. Place names then and now
    2. I have read the entries on this list with great interest for some time. I am relatively new to the search for my RELYEA ancestors, therefore have a lot to learn. I should say a lot more to learn, since I have already learned a great deal fro the list postings. One thing I learned about is the LDS site and the surname searches that can be done on it. This has also created a question that I hope can be answered by members of the list. In most cases the birth, christening and marriage records give a location or city as well as a date, such as Guilderland Center. My question is, are these the place names that exist now, or are they places from the date of the record that may or may not still exist? It they are current locations, is there a way to cross reference to the name they would have had at the date of the record? Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. I need all the help I can get. Don Relyea mastrsgt@aol.com

I am trying to find information on my great grandmother, Elizabeth Rider/Ryder. My info on her so far is that she was born @1845, married to Henry Nelson Lane @1863, they lived in Shandaken, had children named Sherman, Leander, (Mary) Elizabeth, Louis, and Arthur Nelson. Also, any ideas on how to trace someone who was hospitalized for a "nervous breakdown" in Ulster Co. @1870? Someone has suggested that Middletown would have been the closest hospital - any thoughts? How would someone check the records of a hospital that far back?

    3. Hi Nicole, Maybe I can help. In the Kingston DRC Church records, there is a John Roosa baptised on July 20,1800 (baptism # 9737). Parents were John E. Roosa and Elisabet Hoogteeling. No witnesses named. This is the latest listing for John Roosa in the book, whose records run to the end of 1809. Howard Cole At 07:52 AM 9/1/99 -0400, Dibble, Nicole A wrote: > >I am kinda stuck. 3. HI, I'm interested in the Rice family of Rondout. They came from Germany in the 1850's and settled in Kingston. The family was involved in barges on the Hudson river. Jacob Rice was a State Senator in the 1880's and was married to Sophie Derrenbacher. Charles Rice my husband's g-grandfather was married to Elizabeth Langendorfer. Anyone with information on any of these families please e-mail. Betty

    3. There are published obits from The Ulster Republican, published at Kingston 1837-1845, 1846-1848 and Jan 1849 - Apr 1850. Cornelius Davis does not appear. Also published are the obits from The Saugerties Telegraph, 1848-1852 and 1853-1860. Although many Davis's do appear, there is no Cornelius. Audrey Klinkenberg
