The furthest back I have is Solomon Smith (1775-1859) and his wife Priscilla (maiden name unknown) (1802?-1884). In 1840 and 1850 they were living in Hurley, but their son Henry (1821-1894) is listed as "of Woodstock" in 1849 when he married Mary Elizabeth Hallowick (1824-1895). In 1850 and 1860 Henry and Mary lived in Hurley and in 1870 and 1880 they lived in Olive. At the age of 41 Henry fought in the Civil War with Company B of the 120 NY Volunteers. He and Mary Elizabeth had the following children: Margaret, William, James L., Udora, Gouralis(?), (Hiram) Lincoln, Chauncey L., Roland and Newton. Do any of these names sound like a match?

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5RB.2ACE/1342.1 Message Board Post: have you seen this web site? http://www.ipns.com/priddy/huyler/mary.html Says the following (plus lot of other info) In-Laws of Mary Whitney Huyler, wife of John Elsworth John Elsworth(4) >Henry Elsworth(3) >Samuel Elsworth(2) >Benjamin Elsworth(1) John Elsworth's parents: Henry Ellsworth and Hannah Coleman Hannah Coleman was the daughter of Joseph Coleman, of Goshen, Orange Co. NY marriage certainly took place no later than 1771/1772 and perhaps as early as 1764/1765 (if she was his only wife) marriage is unquestionably proven by the Will of Joseph Coleman of Goshen Precinct, Orange Co. NY (Orange County Will Lib.B., pg. 210), which cites Hannah, wife of Henry Elsworth, as "my daughter" as a beneficiary. This Hannah Coleman b. 1739, was Joseph Coleman's eldest child. There is, (so to speak), a "fly in the ointment" which researchers need to be aware of. The LDS-IGI under New York - Elsworth, lists Henry Elsworth as marrying at Cornwall, Orange Co. NY, 11 July 1779 a Mary Salmon. No such record exists anywhere in Cornwall. But in the original Goshen Presbyterian Church records is found: 11 July 1779, Joseph Coleman married Mary Salmon. This was the second marriage of Joseph Coleman and the witness to the marriage was Henry Elsworth, his son-in-law. The Hannah Curtis/Henry Elsworth marriage has been perpetuated for years and published over and over. This is part of the problem that Elsworth researchers encounter when using German Ellsworth's book. I believe that the marriage of Henry Elsworth and Hannah Coleman is adequately proven by the Will of Joseph Coleman and the fact that Henry is witness to his father-in-law's second marriage. MJM

There are three children with the Rinkler surname associated with that marriage. Considering the date of birth for Anna and the date of death for Theron that you list, Anna would have been too old to have children after Theron's death. Would you be able to help me sort this out?

    1. [NYUlster] 1866 Birth in New Paltz area? Town can't find the records
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Hasbrouck Freer Soper Patterson Blakeslee Ives Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5RB.2ACE/1339 Message Board Post: think my ggrandmother was born in New Paltz in 1866 or 1867. Her name was Johanna or Hannah Soper, and she later moved with her mother and uncle to Monmouth County NJ, which is where she shows up in the 1880 Census. I found the Soper famly in the 1850 census in New Paltz with father David, mother Catharine and children Richard, Abraham and Rachel. I have found baptism records for Abraham and Richard also in New Paltz. The Soper family pedigree is well documented on both the paternal & maternal sides (especially the Hasbroucks) , but I haven't found any record of Johanna Soper's birth or christening. I'm wondering if it was because she was illegitimate? (I don' t know, I'm just guessing) Her marriage certificate lists her mother as Rachel Soper and no father, which is why I think that she might be illegitimate. Another famly rumor has it that she was part Indian...... so an illegimate, half indian ggrandmother? I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to go from here. Karen
