What I am in need of now is (possible) death information on a Jannett (spell it however you choose) (Moor(e)) Broadstreet/Bradstreet. This is the place where the published genealogy begins to fall apart; I have worked my way back to this spot beginning with my own new research for this couple's grandaughter. All documentation that I have for her [ Lydia Ann (Mack) ] shows that she was md to a Daniel Moore Broadstreet, not Bradstreet as given in the published book. Supposedly she died 1847 in New Palz, Ulster, NY. True/False? As far as I can tell now, this is not a new connection to my own Bradstreet family, that of Gov. Simon Bradstreet, as published...
I am looking for information on the BIRS family: Anthony S. b.1826 in NY, married to Ann ___ b. 1858 in Canada; children: Lewis B. b. 1858, Anthony N. b. 1862 (my g-grandfather), AbijahO. b.1865, Jennie b.1868, Mary b. 1871, and Alonzo b. 1874. Anthony N. married Alice Terwilliger from Summitville, Sullivan County, NY, date unknown; children: Howard b. 1888 and Fred b. 1889 (my grandfather) both born in Jersey City, Hudson County, NJ (info from birth registers and SS applications). I had the information about Magdalene, the daughter of Paulus Freer and Mary Wiest, but was told this gal died at Plutarch, NY, Nov. 11, 1895 and that the death record is listed with the new Paltz Town clerk's office. I have not been able to prove or disprove it. If I could disprove it, I would be pretty positive that my Magdalene was their daughter. I have never actually done any research in New Paltz but hope to and will certainly follow your suggestions. Thanks again and happy hunting.

Can someone help me identify what might have been the illness that took Albert Burr's life in 1890. He was only 27 years old. In addition, is anyone familiar with the church referenced in the article? Would there be any records available for it? Thank you, Debbie News Article RONDOUT, Dec 13 - How uncertain man's life is was shown by the death of Albert Burr here a few days ago. Mr. Burr, until within three days of his demise, was in excellent health and robust in appearance. He did not feel well, went home and lay down. Nothing was thought of his illness at the time, but a few hours afterward he was the victim of hemorrhages of the lungs, pneumonia set in, and two days later he breathed his last -- leaving a wife and three children to mourn his loss. The deceased was the son of the late William Burr, known throughout Ulster, Greene, Dutchess and Delaware counties as one of the shrewdest of horsemen, and a man who carried within his bosom one of the largest hearts ever possessed by a human being. Albert, though he had his faults in some respects, emulated the example set by his father. He was good natured and had a wide circle of acquaintances. His sudden death was indeed a surprise to all who had been accustomed to see his healthy, vigorous-looking form daily. The funeral was held on Tuesday from his late residence on Hunter Street, and it was largely attended. The Rev. Francis Washburn, in the Church of the Holy Spirit, preached an able and scholarly sermon. Interment in Montrepose cemetery.

Good Morning, It's snowing more than I'd like here in PA this fine March morning and I'm puttering. So, I thought, after reading recent email, that I'd throw out a question that isn't terribly important but has been in the back of my mind on and off for a while. There are several old given names I encounter frequently in my census research that always stir up a little curiosity. So, I thought I'd see if anyone here knows anything about them or where to find out. One is a female name: Permelia. The other is a male name: Tunis. There are others but I've seen these fairly frequently. I'm interested in the derivation of given names. I find it interesting and entertaining. My name is Lorraine, from the French province, derived, apparently from Lotharinga, named for Lothair it's king, 855-869. Name books list the name as meaning famous in war or battle. How people get their names, mine came from a construction shovel (Thew Lorraine construction equipment company) my parents saw on the way to visit one of my aunts otherwise I'd be Cathy Louisep; what language the name came from and the meaning of the name I find very interesting. Anyone else have any interesting name stories or know anything about the names, Permelia and Tunis? I think Tunis is Dutch but what does it mean? Does anyone know any good name sites that include old names? Lorraine O'Dell
