    3. You could apply for the death certificate from the NY State Dept of Health. Both of the dates you give are within the parameter dates of deaths recorded there. 1. Re: [NYUlster] Cattarina Heip West Camp
    2. Dear "nevhome", I find the baptismal record of your "Catharina" in the published baptismal records of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in West Camp. She was born (as you say) on 18 Feb 1715 and baptized on 27 Feb 1715. He parents were Phillip Haupt and his wife Gerdraut ______. You will find a discussion of this immigrant HAUPT family on pages 345-346 of Volume I of Hank Z. Jones' 1985 book, "The Palatine Families of New York". Philipp Haupt and his first wife, Anna Catharina Doersch, and their 3 children were on Captain Francois Waren's ship in the 5th party of Palatine immigrants in 1709. Two more children were born to this couple in America, and then Anna Catharina died. Your Catharina was the only child of Philipp Haupt's second marriage to Gertrude _______. Catharina Haupt was married to Conrad Bason prior to 1736 because Hank JOnes found that a "Catharina Basin born Heupt(in) joined the [Lutheran] Church at Camp in 1732" according to the Loonenburg Lutheran CHurchbook. Conrad Bason's parents and siblings are documented on pages 20-22 of the same volume. Seven children of Conrad Basin and Catherine "Heip" [Haupt] are listed on page 21, the oldest being "Johann Heinrich Bason" born 8 Mar 1736. In Hank Z. Jones' lastest compilation, a 3-volume work published in 2002 entitled "Even More Palatine Families", on pages 1684 and 1685, he says, "To the list of children of Conrad Bason who married Catharina Heip should be added an elder daughter, Catharina, born about 1734. She married Henrich Winter, as evidenced by her surname in the Kinderhook Reformed and Red Hook Lutheran Churchbooks..." If so, he was the 3rd husband to my great-grandmother, Alice Churchill. They had one child together named Marie/Maria. Marie/Maria married a Koupthout. I'm not positive but he may buried in the cemetary in Port Ewen. I'm not sure of the name of the cemetary though; possibly Riverview Cemetary. My great-grandmother's first marriage was to someone in the Williams family and had 2 children: Alma & Leslie. She later married William "Bill" McGovern and had my grandmother, Elizabeth Hazel McGovern. For some reason, the Winchell name has come up from time to time in regards to my great-grandmother but I have no idea what the relation is, if any. I do not have very much more information on that side of my family though. My great-grandfather, William McGovern, passed away when my grandmother was 3 and, by the time I became involved with genealogy, my grandmother's memory was gone regarding her mother. If you'd like, I can try to get you in touch with some individuals from the Soper family who have also been researching their family tree and who are connected to the Slaters and Koupthouts. Jeff T. My great-grandfather, William "Bill" McGovern, passed away in 1916 when my grandmother was only 3 so she didn't know him. From what I was told, and if I remember correctly, William had been in an accident and sustained a head injury. I guess it affected his memory afterwards and the one day, he left home to pick up his paycheck and never returned. Members of my family say that he went to Canada where he had a sister and died there. Apparently, my great-grandmother, Alice, was already angry about him disappearing but his family did not tell her of his death until many months later. After learning of his death, she was angry that she burned all of his belongings. So, when my grandmother was growing up, she didn't even have pictures of her father. I'm not sure if this story is accurate or completely true but I haven't been able to verify any of it. I also haven't been able to really find any information on William and Alice. Jeff T. I'm not sure it would be available for sale anywhere; but it was published by Tennesee Valley Publishing, Knoxville, TN, I think in 1994. I'm researching information about my Grandfather, Jim. S. Smiley, who traveled the vaudeville circuit in your area during the early 1900’s as a trick shooter. He was sometimes called "Chief" Smiley and was an outstanding marksman. He lived in Canada most of his life. For many years he and a female performer traveled the vaudeville circuit in Canada and parts of the United States under the billing of "SMILEY AND HUTTON" as trick sharpshooters. I believe they performed sometime between 1903 and 1920 (perhaps in the old Griffin Theaters) where they took their show to portions of United States and Canada. I suspect this is an unusual request, but any assistance you could provide, like playbill information or dates they may have performed in your region, or even potential contacts would be deeply appreciated. Thank you very much. Regards, Wayne L. Smiley [email protected]
