Gads. It's more like, is there a cemetery that DOESN'T have Houghtalings in it? Actually, Walker Valley is one that doesn't...That's a good old name in this area. It would take me forever...I don't have time for that much typing at the moment, so let me give you the cemeteries and how many at each: Esopus Port Ewen Cemetery--29 Hurley Hurley Cemetery--2 Old Hurley Burying Ground--12 Kingston First Reformed Dutch Church Ground--4 Cemetery on Albany Avenue--1 Houghtaling Cemetery--3 Marbletown Marbletown Reformed Dutch Church Ground--6 Saugerties Mountain View Cemetery--9 Schoonmaker Ground--1 Shandaken Markle Family Ground--1 Then there's a slew of entries where Houghtaling (or some variation in spelling) was a maiden name. There are only a couple entries for Eighmey: Shandaken Shandaken M.E. Church Ground Eighmey, Oscor B., June 10, 1862, 0-7-25; Phillip B., Jan 2, 1880, 4-2-10 Sons of Barnett and Fannie S. Coons Burying Ground Brownell, Luisina Eighmey, w. of I., Jan. 4, 1869, 32-9-26 Woodstock Woodstock Cemetery Eighmey, Barnet, Feb. 23, 1864, 80th yr. Eighmey, Rachel Booth, w. of Barnet?, Oct. 3 1872, 83 yrs (compiler's "?", not mine) All of the above are from "Old Gravestones of Ulster County" by Poucher & Terwilliger (1931) with Index by the Ulster Co Genealogical Society. "Ulster County Cemeteries" compiled by Florence Prehn and edited by Audry M. Klinkenberg has several Eighmy/Eighmey entries. Wm Ball, who from 1728,lived in Philadelphia's Northern suburbs [Liberties], wrote a will in 1737,proved in 1740,and finished execution in 1755,that mentioned Ulster Co,NY land. His wife [2nd?] was a White, whose own will was 1768. His son,Wm's 1810 will, mentioned widely scattered lands. Wm Jr and brother,Samuel, were merchants. Sir Stanhope was also mentioned in Sr's will. While I know some of the history and families of Kingston-Esopus,NY,Ihave no idea what resources Ulster Co has available to learn more of Wm Ball, ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! NY and died March 26, 1887 in Chemung Co. NY. He married (1) Phebe Spencer bef. June 25, 1821 in Ulster Co. He married (2) Louise Whitlock aft. January 10, 1848 in Elmira, NY. She was daughter of Samuel Whitlock and R. Sanford. I do not show a "Susan" as a daughter of William. My records may very well be incomplete. I do show a "Sally Ann Greatsinger" born March 25, 1822. Could she be the same woman as your Susan? Your William b. 1793 was the son of Christian Greatsinger b. in Germany and d. bef. March 14, 1805 in Kingston, Ulster Co. NY. He had two wives. First wife was Susannah Myers, and they were the parents of your William and a Christian Jr. I show only these two children for Christian and Susannah. Christian's second wife was Anne Palmer or Parmer (I believe Parmer). I show 8 children for them. I am a descendant of TWO of their daughters, Susannah Greatsinger who married Benjamin Deyo and Maria/Polly Greatsinger who married Daniel Litts/Litz. Susannah and Benjamin Deyo lived at Bontecoe, which is on the Wallkill River northwest of New Paltz, NY. Benjamin was a descendant of the Deyo family of New Paltz. His father's house still stands. Among their children was a daughter Anna. Maria/Polly and Daniel Litts lived in Ulster Co., and then Schoharie County for a while, and then finally in old age moved to Oneida Co. NY, where both died. Daniel Litts fought as a teenager in the Rev War. Among their children was a son William Litts. The Anna Deyo and the William Litts (who were obviously first cousins) married, and I am a descendant of theirs. Would like to share Greatsinger or Kritsinger info with anyone. Name was originally either Kritsinger or Critsinger (German). They came into Ulster co. from Freehold in Monmouth Co., NJ. Would like more info on the whole family. Surname was Anglicized into Greatsinger, don't know by whom or why.
