I am looking for the parents of my 4GG mother, Sarah SWART. Sarah was born in 1783 and died 30 Aug 1840 (dates on her headstone). She is buried in the Hume Family Cemetery in Circleville, Orange, NY. Sarah was married to John MOORE on 12 Feb 1800 in the Graham Church in Pine Bush, Orange, NY. We have not been able to find the parents of either Sarah or John. I have found a couple of possibliities for Sarah, but I am wondering if anyone has any additional information that would help me. The two possibilities for Sarah are: Sarah SWART born 1 Feb 1784 in Shawangunk, Ulster, NY to Johannes SWART and Catherine VANDERMARK Sarah SWART christened 8 Sep 1782 in Shawangunk, Ulster, NY, daughter of Issak SWART and Maria KERNEY or CARNEY. Sarah SWART and John MOORE named their first son Isaac and first daughter Mary, which seems to suggest that she is the second Sarah mentioned above. However, they also have a son John and a daughter Katherine, like the parents of the 1st Sarah. I would really appreciate any help sorting this out. Thanks. --Bart
Looking for a site to view records before 1900's. I have tried Familysearch.com and had no luck. Do I have any other options online? Looking for Phillip Ruger to Catherine? arround 1835, Norman Ruger to Charlotte ? in Rosendale around 1868, and Byron Ruger to Carrie ? around 1880. Jannette, My info agrees with you. Ary and Manuel Terwilliger were brothers. Jannetje(born 1750) was the d/o Ary Terwilliger and Grietjen Phoenix. My info came from "The Terwilliger Family in America", by way of Myron L. Terwilliger and George B. Terwilliger. My line goes with Evert Terwilliger bp. 23 May 1686 and Sarah Freer, and their daughter Maria(Mary) Terwilliger bp. 28 Aug. 1720, who married Zacharias Hoffman, Jr. This couple's daughter Sarah Hoffman married into my Schoonmaker line when she married Cornelius Schoonmaker. I just published some of my year-long genealogical census research results regarding my various LANEs, BARBERs, SMEDES & HARRINGTONs of Greene and Ulster Counties, New York State (and many more) on my RootsWeb's WorldConnect page at: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=carlos_barber I've been working mainly with the 1850 census and later. I will be updating this WorldConnect page/section as I know more over time. It is my intention to keep this web address. I bumped into a Civil War photo of Francis "Frank" Augustus BARBER on the web, and put it onto my website at: http://www.lighthousewoods.com/genealogy/barber/barber_francis_augustus.html I asked the party who posted the photo where he got the photo, and never received a reply back. I think the photo was probably published in some book, but what book I don't know. Someday, I'd like to know what book, and perhaps obtain a copy. From the photo, I can tell that I have Frank's hands: BIG & STURDY -- nothing delicate about my hands. My brother looks like Frank, which I'd never known because I'd never seen a picture of Frank before (to my knowledge). I have Frank BARBER's Civil War pension papers. Among the papers mentions how Frank's disability & chronic pain he suffered after he returned from the Civil War was caused by a bullet ricocheting off of Calvin HARRINGTON's rifle (son of William & Anna HARRINGTON; brother of Emeline), then into Frank's upper torso, right shoulder area. Calvin & Frank fought side by side in the war, and from what I am able to gather, were pals from at least 1860 until their deaths. L. J. His family left Canada for NY when Sydney "was an infant", (1840's?) Upon arrival to the states, Sydney Eliphlet O'Neal's name was changed to Sidney E. NEAL. The "O" was dropped and in the family records it is stated "The Queen can have it!" There is no record in the family bible of Sidney's parents or siblings, although I believe that "Eliphlet" (or a variation) may have been a family name. Sidney was supposedly in NY until about 1850's. He is known to be in Mount Vernon, Jefferson County, Illinois in 1859, where a son was born (James Westcott Neal) . On the 1860 census for Jefferson County, IL, there is an "Elephant" Neal and wife Rachel, both from NY. Next door to them is a James Westcott an wife Talitha. I believe these families are connected and am trying to find information on them in NY. Any information on the possible parents or siblings of Sidney E. Neal is appreciated! Thank you.
The last paragraph of a posting on July 13 from [email protected] (SUBJECT: [NYUlster] Re: Shawangunk, Ulster County -Reformed Protestant Dutch Church) stated that Jannetje Terwilliger was the daughter of Manuel Terwilliger. Jannetje Terwilliger is also in my direct line, and according to "The Terwilliger Family in America" by George B. Terwilliger and Myron L. Terwilliger, Jannetje, who married William C. Cole, was the daughter of Ary Terwilliger and Grietjen Phoenix and not the daughter of Manuel. As stated in the above book, Ary and Manuel were brothers. I have searched several church books for Jannetje's baptism but to no avail. Is there anyone who can document which parent Jannetje belongs? Many thanks. Jeannette

Does any one have a Uriah Hill or a Mary Swartwout in their data file? They were both born around 1757 and died in Ulster County. Mary (Swartwout) about 1800 and Uriah Hill in 1841. When and where they were married is unknown. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Don Treague
