Hi all, What would be the quickest way (short of flying to NY) to find out if there is a specific filing of a will in surrogate court in Ulster County? And, if it does exist, who/where am I writing to order up a copy? I stopped in the Greenfield Post Office and a local resident directed me to it. If you make plans to come to NY, e-mail me and I'll send you directions. I have several generations of ancestors buried there, some had siblings that married Depuys (Sarah B. Gray m. Simon Wykoff Depuy) and Newkirks (Mary Gray m. Moses Newkirk).

Looking for Nicholas, son of Christian, brother of Michael, who is not on the 1880 Alabama Census, but is listed with them in 1870 Kingston, NY census. Hey folks, A heads up concerning the NY State Archives and the State Library's Manuscripts and Special Collections research room, currently on the 3rd floor of the Cultural Education Center in Albany. The room will be closed the first week in November to allow for the move back to the 11th floor. Visit the State Archives website for further information at: http://www.archives.nysed.gov/a/nysaservices/ns_research_renov.shtml This does not impact the 7th Floor of the State Library, which will remain open. It has been online for awhile but was more informative when they first posted it. In the beginning they had a good deal of the information that was on the marriage record in the database. Concerns about privacy issues caused them to abreviate the information. Too bad - with that information, an actual marriage record was not necessary. They have a "word wheel", their version of soundex, which allows you to search several variations of the surname at one time. The search engine will even work with just the given names of the bride and groom.
What is the address for the searchable marriage database? Thanks Steve.

They have a records index dating from 1880 until 1954 for most of New York State. Certificates can then be ordered from the Department of Health and delivered in about 5 weeks when ordered here in Albany. I also research vitals from NY City at the Municipal Archives in Manhattan. They produce copies on site I can deliver the same day. Most vital records contain maiden names, parent's places of birth, occupation etc. Here is my link, maybe I can help: http://www.nyscensushunt.com [email protected]

She was the wife of Charles Abbott of England. There are so many Chas. Abbott's from Eng. unable to determine who is who. Stella had one dau. named Frances Abbott, no dates. Her first husband was Charles Driscoll and we are unable to locate anything on him. Frances's second husband was Walter I. Archer of Mass. We have info on him. We are going around in circles on some of these folks. Charles Driscoll was in Mass maybe around 1880? He had a number of children who all died except Charlotte Helena Driscoll, who we believe was born circa 1885 (this is Ruth's adopted mother). Hope you can enlighten us on some of these family members. Thanks. Signed: Ruth L. Thompson, 8 Honan Road, Scarborough, Maine 04074 tel: 207-883-6851
