Stephen Bates Born June 12, 1754 in Coventry, Kent Co. Rhode Island, died Oct. 30, 1849 in Erie Co, NY married three women that I can see by the bible pages. First was a Susan (either Baker or Parker depending on how you read the bad writing) Barnes, whose only child was James Bates in 1787. Phebe Nichols is the most recognized wife of Stephen who is a baptist preacher, then Katherine Davis in 1835 when he is 71 is the least. Once you plug in Stephen Bates son of Francis Bates and Mary, Francis second wife being Elizabeth Bissel, you will find all the information you need, except the key link in the Bates Bible which ties it all together.
