I looked him up in a 1908 Cornell alumni directory I acquired during my research. It shows him working for Westchester Lighting Co. in New Rochelle, N.Y., if that is of any interest to you. I would suspect he came down with typhoid from your story. Typhoid was an awful disease, and 28 Cornell students died. Do you recall your mother or grandmother ever mentioning anything about your grandfather's parents getting financial assistance from Andrew Carnegie to pay his medical bills from the epidemic? Carnegie, in part to mollify angry parents, offered to pay the bills (which could be substantial, as much as a year's wages for a workingman) of any Cornell student who had contracted the disease. If I run across anything that specifically mentions your grandfather, I'll pass it along. Thanks, David DeKok, ddekok@mac.com.
