However, that source appears to be incorrect in the statement that David Quigg is the son of Capt. John McQuigg. John McQuigg, Jr. and his second wife Sarah Coburn McQuigg did have a son named David, but he was not born unitl 11/27/1791. David Quigg, who married Harriet Pumpelly, was born in 1781 and the 1850 and 1860 census bear this out. David Quigg, Jr was the son of David and Mary Harvell McQuigg. David, Sr. was a brother to Capt. John McQuigg and according to family history, David (who also served in the Rev. War), dropped the "Mc" from his surname and his descendants went by the name Quigg, although when David, Jr. and Harriet married it did list him as McQuigg, instead of Quigg. David Quigg came to Tompkins Co., NY and operated a store as early as 1801 (Landmarks of Tompkins County, New York by John H. Selkreg, 1894; D. Mason & Co., Publisher) David, Jr. would have been 20 years of age in 1801, certainly young to be starting a store on his own, but possible I guess. I have not yet learned what happened to John's son David b. 1791, no information on him has turned up. Thank you again for the reply.
