    3. > http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.htm > List of Tompkins papers on this site The server returned an error ("page cannot be found") when tried to access this site. It turned out that the filename should be Fulton.html, not Fulton.htm. The site starts with a grotesque Flash splash page, and then one enters a page having two frames. Unfortunately, the author uses frames and javascript. He must have used some kind of automatic web page designer, for the page lacks any DOCTYPE and does not validate. The width of the left frame is not defined to accomodate its content. This frame allows one to do a word search on "old New York state papers". I did a search on an arbitrary name, "Van Zant", and got 645 hits. The list of these hits is organized by relevance, which in this case was not very helpuful. What is returned are links to 1-page PDF files. Based on a small sample, about a third were so poorly photographed as to be illegible. As best I could make out there was no straightforward way to know what papers are accessible and their runs available for searching, nor did I see any way to read a paper from a particular date. I've no idea what the right frame does. It provides for a log in for some reason, perhaps to support a chat room. It also offers access to a collection of Fulton Historical Photos. It requires a pop up, which many people disable in their browser. For some odd reason, all the photographs had a picture of the site's owner superimposed on them. Is there a resource available on line that reports the runs of old Tomkins Country newspapers and the libraries where they are available, and also if at all dititalized and accessible on line? -- Haines Brown, KB1GRM
