I do occasionally open those messages - just in case they are of interest for my lines or I can supply some information. However, it doesn't help the one who is making the query to get a response when the reader has no idea what they are really looking for. I may have been guilty myself when I first started my research so have sympathy for those who are "new to the game". Hope your notes will help those researchers make better queries and get good responses. Always happy to share - Sherwood line Connecticut 1600s to 1800s to Tompkins County 1830 or so - and have a great cousin way out in Alaska!
