Captain Wiles will guide you along the history of this 363-mile-long waterway completed in 1825 to link the Hudson River in the east to Lake Erie in the west. He also will discuss the 21st century issues facing the state's canals. Captain Wiles of Skaneateles, N.Y., is the captain of the canal boat Emita II and a member of the New York State Canal Recreation Way Committee.
