I searched the Rev. War Pension Files but could not find a James Brooks which seemed to fit. However, not all applied for a Pension. I did find a John Brooks living in Orange County, NY who had tried to receive a Pension as did his heirs. The various affidavits mention he had a son, also named John Brooks. Three daughters are also mentioned by name. These four adult children were applying for their Father's Pension. Do you have the names of William's siblings?
