Surnames: NORTHRUP, HART Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4RB.2ACE/3238 Message Board Post: My paternal grandfather, Jesse E. HART had a younger sister by the name of Maude A.. She was born abt 1888 and died sometime between 1916-18; buried in the Peruville Cemetery in Tompkins County. Verbal family history has it that she died between the ages of 28-30 leaving four small children and a husband (unknown). It is said that the father of these children put them all up for adoption and disappeared. While seeking information about Maude, I randomly put her 1st name into the census records on Ancestry.com. Well would you believe that I located a Maude NORTHRUP (age 22 at time of 1910 census) living in Groton with her husband, Jesse R. Northrup (age 32) along with two small children by the names of Alden P., age 2 and Ellen M., age 9 months. The record indicated that they had been married for 5 years at the time the census was taken (April 18 & 19th). What makes me believe this woman/family is that of my missing great aunt is the fact that they lived 5 houses away from my grandfather (her brother) and 7 houses away from her sister (Delpha [Hart] BROWN and her family. I am hoping someone may have some type of connection or lead to Jesse R. Northrup or perhaps know someone who may. I am desperately seeking information about Maude, her husband and children. When and how did she die and what happened to her children? What were Maude's other two youngest children's names which were born after the census record was taken (between 1911 and her death sometime between 1916-1918). Who might have adopted them and were their names legally changed to their adopted parents' surnames? Thank you in advance for any help or leads you may be able to provide.
