It also shows a Ida B Lee living at 55 Fulton St. Later on 2 May 1909 in the Ithaca Daily Journal there is a obit for Ida who is married to Ernest. Ida is my grandfathers sister and I am trying to find a record of their marrage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I live in Ga and am unable to come there myself. Dennis

    2. Janet M. Nash
    3. Fran, As far as I know all wills are in the Tompkins Co., NY Surrogate office, located at the Court House in Ithaca. Dates starting about 1817. Unsure if there are any earlier than that. If you go in person the cost for the wills are copy fees. If you order them for the clerks to look up, wills are $90.00 per will, plus copy fees. Or you can order through "Tompkins County Will Testators Index 1817-1903"SAMPUBCO <http://www.sampubco.com> an online resource site by W. David Samuelsen. If you do not find them in Tompkins Co., you may want to try Seneca Co. I did not find any Blain, or Blaine in Tompkins Co., on Sampubco, but I did find some in Seneca Co. BLAIN, JAMES ROMULUS NY-50-S-209 BLAIN, JERRY ROMULUS NY-50-K-129 BLAIN, JOHN SENECA FALLS NY-50-I-623 BLAIN, SARAH ROMULUS NY-50-J-373 BLAINE, CATHERINE H. OVID NY-50-T-255 BLAINE, JANE VARICK NY-50-O-475 BLAINE, W. FRANK COVERT NY-50-U2-193 DIMMICK, SAMUEL LODI NY-50-S-549 The only one I found in the index in Tompkins Co. was: DIMMICK, ELIAS DANBY NY-55-V-508 Hope this gives you a little direction on where to look. 1. [NYTOMPKI] Thomas Families of Tompkins County
    2. Ann Owens
    3. I am researching the numerous Thomas families who settled in Tompkins County. My particular interest is Benjamin Thomas, who came to Dryden around 1834 from Dutchess County or New York City. His son, Henry D. Thomas, born 1836 in Dryden, is my great-grandfather. I'm trying to see if there is any connection between this family and the family of another Benjamin Thomas of Groton. There was also another Thomas family originally from New Jersey that settled in Dryden, but I don't think there is a connection with my family. Is anyone researching these families? Some of the surnames connected are: BOICE, WINFIELD, WATTLES, WRIGHT, HOLLISTER. Thanks for any suggestions. Ann Lounsbery Owens, Seattle

And just for fun there are 10 chains in a furlong. So, one rod is 16.5 feet and one link is .66 feet or 7.2 inches. A furong is for horses! Your biggest problem will be in trying to find the location of corners in the old deeds or surveys where descriptions such as "...12 rods to the large chestnut tree then east 5 chains to the large rock near George Olson's pear tree..." are noted. Good luck.
