    3. Eileen: Mary Jane and Lydia Ann were the only two children born to William and Hydie Girard and both of these ladies were married to my GGrandfather Grove Maltby Hall. Groves older brother Gordon was married to a Nancy Lunger whose parents were John Lunger and Eliz Girard at Ithaca and who was a cuzin of Mary and Lydia. They moved to Lockport and spent the rest of their days there. I was always told we were related to Stephen Girard (the well known atheist of PA) but have never been able to prove it out. One family tale about him will pass on to you at a later date. If you would care to send me your private e-mail I would be able to attach html files of what I have, and also not bore the rest of the good people in the county. The Eaton clan I tie in with my gggrandmother Lois Maltby married to that Gideon S. Hall that I can't find as follows. If this ties in with yours --the Maltby clan is connected to the English royalty in a very large file. 1 Richard Eaton Rev 2 Theophihus Eaton 1590-1657 +Grace Miller - 1626 2nd wife of Theophihus Eaton +Anna Yale 3 Hannah Eaton 1707 +William Jones 1624 4 Isaac Jones 1671 +Deborah Clark 1672 5 Deborah Jones 1700 +Nathaniel Maltby 1700-1731 -----Original Message----- From: nytompki-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nytompki-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Eileen Sent: Tuesday, October 10, 2006 4:31 AM To: nytompki@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYTOMPKI] LOST CEMETERY ITHACA Thank you, Grove. Before that, the Eatons were in Suffolk and Orange Counties, NY. Do you know where the Girards in your family came from....their ancestor? Thanks. Eileen

    3. Once had a bro-in-law that was a shrink and he told me that an old man could not make any statement without making a story of it, and, having reached that glorious plateau. find I must do the same thing. My ggrandpappy Grove Maltby Hall moved from Volney,Oswego to Ithaca and married Mary Jane Girard 1859 then in 1864 she died evidently in childbirth giving birth to my granddad Grove Stanley in Savanna. A grandson of Grove M. told me about 60 years ago that he attended Cornell Univ. and that Mary Jane was buried about 5 miles NW of Ithaca along the shores of Lake Cayuga in a small cemetery. Looking at a google map of the area I can find no cemeteries on shoreline, except that TAUGHANNOCK BLVD runs lengthwise of lake, and I presume he was talking of the west side of the lake. If anyone living in the area knows of such a place I would sure like to have pictures of her resting place. After her death he returned to Ithaca and married her sister Lydia Ann Girard in 1865 and then became an ordained Methodist minister, in Iowa and So Dakota, and buried in Decatur Mich 1905. I have another immense problem ... and it pertains to the father of Grove Maltby Hall .. the grandson also told me he recalls hearing a story there was someone in the family that was a polygamist but cited being of old age he could not remember who it was. His name is Gideon S. Hall who disappeared after being on the 1850 census in Volney. I have documented the 3 sons of Gideon not being guilty of this. He had one dau. that wrote up the family chart as she knew it for a lady who was writing a book on the Maltby family however she does not mention dear old dad and neither does anyone else in the family, so my conclusion is that dear old dad was the one that was guilty of this. If anyone has seen any documents pertaining to such an incident I would sure like to know where to go looking next...I have literally tore Oswego and Jefferson counties to shreds the last 3 years looking for something of his past life and that will point to his resting place. What little I have found is absolutely useless. Thank you for listening to an old frustrated genie.any help would be greatly appreciated. Grove Schoolcraft

In particular I'm researching Jerome T. "Romie" Miller (b. 12/1861 - d. 1929; married Fannie V. Plum, b. 1868 d. 1924) son of John K. Miller (b. 1836 - d. 1905, married Rebecca Beardsley b. 1830 - d. 1915). Both father and son worked for the railroad that ran through Brookton. I have a photograph of one of them standing in front of the depot but I don't know if it's John or Romie. Romie's son, Howard V. Miller (b. 1894 - d. 12/1948, married Rhea F. Miller, b. 1894 - d. 1966), was a General Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene, but I've found no family members after him. Romie's daughter Mattie (b. 1867) appears in census records until 1880. I'm interested in finding any stories, anecdotes, photos, etc. from this family's involvement with the railroad, Rhea Miller's career as a gospel songwriter, and if their descendants are still in the area. Thanks!

    3. Thanks for your help Janet. Don't recognize any of those Blain or Blaines. We hope to make a trip to the Tompkins area in the Spring and now we have a clue as to where to begin. Thanks again. Fran Jackson
