Northrup in the 1910 Census that fits. He's enumerated at the 3rd Reserve Hospital in Manila, Philippine Islands on a Census taken 28 June 1900. Given this is a military schedule, it gives some interesting information. He is a Private, Co. C, 42 infantry. It listed his residence as McLean, NY and his birth month and year as October 1877. Jesse appears to be a Spanish-American War veteran. Bill
If you were within arms reach right this minute, you'd be getting the BIGGEST HUG! Thank you so very much for helping me with some information which will (hopefully) provide additional leads to locating Ellen or perhaps her siblings from someone within Broome County who knows something about her/them. I spent the day in Groton today hoping to find "anything" about this family. The town clerk's office maintains the marriage records (but unfortunately not the death or birth records). I found Maude and Jesse's marriage record. They were married in Groton on July 13, 1904 - his parents' names were listed as Delbert Northrup and mother was Adelia Luther. Jesse's birth place was listed as North Gage, NY (will have to look up where that is located as I've never heard of it). Your willingness to help me is very, very much appreciated! Please contact me if I could return your kindness by research within my area.

I just located 11 year old Ellen Northrup in the 1920 census for Union township, Broome Co., NY. She was a boarder in the household of Samuel S. Bishop and his wife Isabel Bishop...that explains why I saw Mrs. Samuel Bishop on Jesse Northrup's WW I draft reg. card.

I found a WW I draft registration card on Ancestry.com for a Jesse Rosel Northrup, who was residing at 123 Court St., Binghamton, Broome Co., NY when the card was filed, which was Sept. 12, 1918. He gave his nearest living relative as Ellen Northrup, daughter...I noticed you said your Jesse Northrup had a daughter Ellen. It appears as if Ellen was living at a residence different from his...her address is given as North Baldwin St., Johnson City, Broome Co. There is another name as well on the nearest relative line, but it is very hard to read...possibly Mrs. Samuel Bishop, or Mrs. Susan Bishop? I cannot see where the relationship between Jesse and this woman is given, but it may be there, just too small to see. By the way, card indicates Jesse was b. Oct. 4, 1877, and he was working as an "expressman" for the American R.R. Express. Jesse Northrup also appears in both the 1920 and 1930 census re! cords for Binghamton, as a lodger/roomer, marital status both times given as "w" (widower). Hope this helps!
Joyce, I also have family that lived near the Groton/Lansing line in section 91, the Barber Carpenter family. Their grandson, James Thomas Drake was reportedly born at Asbury in 1829. I too would be interested in knowing where I might find records from that area and time. So far I have found nothing that was pertinent. I was reading an earlier post that spoke to marriage records. My challenge is trying to find any kind of records - marriage, birth, death, etc. - around 1800-1825 in what is now Tompkins Co. The family I'm researching lived on the line between Lansing and Groton and recorded deeds in Lansing section 74 and Groton section 81. Needless to say, some of the deeds were recorded in Cayuga Co., some in Onondaga Co., and some in Tompkins Co., as township and county lines changed hands. One of the family is buried in Asbury Cemetery up on Triphammer Rd., and a couple of others in East Lansing Cemetery. Any ideas where I might look? Thanks, Jocye
I may be able to help with information from the marriage certificate index at the library in Rochester, NY. Let me know if you still need the information. It will be a few days until I'm able to make a trip there anyway. HART had a younger sister by the name of Maude A.. She was born abt 1888 and died sometime between 1916-18; buried in the Peruville Cemetery in Tompkins County. Verbal family history has it that she died between the ages of 28-30 leaving four small children and a husband (unknown). It is said that the father of these children put them all up for adoption and disappeared. While seeking information about Maude, I randomly put her 1st name into the census records on Ancestry.com. Well would you believe that I located a Maude NORTHRUP (age 22 at time of 1910 census) living in Groton with her husband, Jesse R. Northrup (age 32) along with two small children by the names of Alden P., age 2 and Ellen M., age 9 months. The record indicated that they had been married for 5 years at the time the census was taken (April 18 & 19th). What makes me believe this woman/family is that of my missing great aunt is the fact that they lived 5 houses away from my grandfather (her brother) and 7 houses away from her sister (Delpha [Hart] BROWN and her family. I am hoping someone may have some type of connection or lead to Jesse R. Northrup or perhaps know someone who may. I am desperately seeking information about Maude, her husband and children. When and how did she die and what happened to her children? What were Maude's other two youngest children's names which were born after the census record was taken (between 1911 and her death sometime between 1916-1918). Who might have adopted them and were their names legally changed to their adopted parents' surnames? Thank you in advance for any help or leads you may be able to provide.

Auburn Bulletin Monday, 23 October 1899 Death of A. B. Whipple The death of Alfred B. Whipple which occurred at his home, No. 11 Maple street, shortly after 8 a.m. today, will bring sorrow to many. He was born in McLean, Tompkins county, June 25, 1829, and on Dec. 31, 1848, was married to Waty M. Rogers, who survives him. Mr. and Mrs. Whipple were born in the same place, grew up together, and for 50 years and over have lived together as man and wife, celebrating their golden wedding on Dec. 31 last. Besides Mrs. Whipple he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Swan, of South street, and Mrs. Frank I. Lattimer, of New York, and one brother, Edmund C. Whipple, of Denver, Colorado. He was first engaged in farming, then in mercantile pursuits, for 11 years in the mail service of the United States and for the same period keeper in Auburn prison. For the past five years he has not been engaged in active business and for three years has been in decling health. He was a member of St. Paul's lodge, F. and A. M., of this city and of the First Baptist church, and in both of there organizations was beloved and respected as a true worker in the faith.
