Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.tompkins/5033/mb.ashx Message Board Post: For a book on the Ithaca typhoid epidemic of 1903, I'm looking for anyone who has family stories or documents about the epidemic. I've searched through all the Ithaca newspapers, which had a lot, but I'm hoping for letters or diaries that reference the epidemic. This was one of the worst typhoid epidemics in the U.S., killing 82 persons, including 28 Cornell students, and sickening more than a thousand people in that small town. I'm especially looking for descendants of Theodore Zinck, who ran the Hotel Brunswick, and Dr. Alice Potter, who died during the epidemic. Thanks for any and all help.

    2. kajh
    3. Frank David BOYNTON, who became the Superintendent of Schools in Ithaca, appears to have been married twice. I believe his first wife was Flora WHITE of Nicholville, NY. His second wife, as of 1906 was Jane WILLIAMS of Ithaca, NY. He had children born by each wife. Does anyone on this List know where the three are buried? I don't have any dates of death. I have checked Janet Nash's web-site, RootsWeb WorldConnect, GenCircles and a few other places but can not seem to locate this information. I'd appreciate any information. I searched the Rev. War Pension Files but could not find a James Brooks which seemed to fit. However, not all applied for a Pension. I did find a John Brooks living in Orange County, NY who had tried to receive a Pension as did his heirs. The various affidavits mention he had a son, also named John Brooks. Three daughters are also mentioned by name. These four adult children were applying for their Father's Pension. Do you have the names of William's siblings? This might identify the person I found or exclude him. However, it states the elder John Brooks was born in NYC. Regards, Kathleen Ref.: Series: M805 Microfilm Roll: 124 File: R1251

Surnames: Brooks Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.tompkins/5031/mb.ashx Message Board Post: William Rensselaer BROOKS was born between 1821 and 1822. His Civil War records and the 1860 census indicate he was born in New York State. The CW records state Sullivan County. A passage in a book attributed to William's son, Marion, indicates that William was born in Orange County, NY, moving to Tompkins County when he was 18 years of age and that William's father was James Brooks. Marion also said that James was a native of England, coming to America during the Revolutionary war and spent several years in the war. He settled first in Berks County, PA, but afterward moved to Orange County, NY, where he died. I have lots of information on the descendants of William. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Ron Hughes

Treman State Park near Ithaca, New York. For years, we have been trying to find a photograph of a 19th Century hotel in the park in a former agricultural services hamlet known as Enfield Falls. An archeology class from Cornell University has unearthed the hotel's foundation, along with the foundations of several other buildings in the hamlet, but we still have no picture of the hotel, which we'd like to use in interpretive signage, publications, and in a video we are producing. Please forward this message to anyone, including appropriate listserves, you can think of who might have a lead to finding a picture of this building, including any picture that might include it in the scene. We are also interested in finding other photographs of this former hamlet. Somewhere in an attic, or in the files of an historic society, or??? Think outside of the frame. An image of this could be in another state, or in some national archive or in some database somewhere. Thanks, Tony Ingraham 607-275-0344 owlgorge@earthlink.net We know that an image did exist. It was the first in the "Enfield Series" of "Imperial Stereographs of Cayuga Lake Scenery" by G. F. Gates of Watkins Glen, NY.
