    1. [NYTOMPKI] Two Ithaca Journal clippings
    2. mmillard
    3. Dear listers, I recently came upon an Ithaca Journal clipping of long-time radio announcer, Jack Deal's obituary. The headline reads: "Local radio legend, host on WHCU dies at 77." The date is missing from the clipping but whoever saved it wrote "11/95" on it. This is confirmed in an obituary on the reverse side of the clipping. The obituary on the reverse honors Elizabeth F. Mearse, also of Ithaca, NY, who died on 4 November 1995. I do not have a scanner, but if anyone is interested in the information contained in either of these obits, I will be happy to transcribe them and e-mail them to you. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Platt, Bloom, Teeter, LaBar, Snyder Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.tompkins/2310.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I too have Teeter and LaBar in my tree, Lavina Teeter married James H. Bloom and had a daughter, Cora Bloom. Anyone have information on this line please contact me. Thank you. The LaBar line information I received from another Platt family member, which is as follows: Phebe Catherine LaBar's mother was named Sally Snyder LaBar and her siblings were Olivia, Emma, Julia and Calvin. I have traced the LaBar family all the way back to the 1500s. They were in France in 1550 and the name was spelled De La Barre. Anyhow, Phoebe Catherine's father, Jesse, is buried in the old Thompson cemetery near Pennline. His wife Sarah (Sally) is not buried there. There is a 2 month old infant of theirs (Nancy U) buried there also. Jesse LaBar died in 1859. I thought I could see Labar on the gravestone but it was difficult to read. The stone is tipped over and the weather has done some damage too. Jesse Labar Died May 16, 1859 Aged 56 years (aged?) Farewell friends, and children dear I am not dead but sleeping here. The daughter's little tiny stone is right beside his but it doesn't have any words, just a little angel. I wonder if he and Sarah (Sally) were divorced or separated as she is not buried there and it doesn't mention "wife" on the stone? Her picture is in the family album but he had died in 1859 and of course his photo is not in there. I also have photos of many of the LaBars.

Somehow with the new format I didn't find a place to just "post" a new message. I have two old Tompkins County photos. One is of the 1925 graduating class of Dryden High School. My mother belonged to that class. The other photo is an old one room school house and the students outside. My guess is that this was Searsburg - at least someplace nearby. I don't know the time frame but probably late 1800s or early 1900s. I will try to attach the files for these two photos - not sure if it will work. If anyone can identify any of those pictured in either photo, please let me know. Always happy to share, Gen Sherwood Bullock Native of Tompkins County but not living there now.

It was Monroe House, a great friend of mine who donated land for the North Spencer Christian Academy. His family has lived in the Spencer Danby area for many many years. His father was killed working on his saw mill when a board hit him in the face. My friend lives in the House family homestead on Michigan Hollow Road. We are working on a project with the House family. We also have many photos of maybe 4 generations of Monroe. I am also a friend of Monroes 2 daughters who live in the area. I am interested in sharing anything we have and would welcome anything you might have.

I've rather a lot of Baldwins so I'll try to list them in alphabetical order, only a few Lathrops: BALDWIN: Abigail, Alanson, Alfred, Alvan or Alvah, Alvira [in any of several spellings], Betsey, Charlotte, Clarissa, Cordelia, Edmond or Edmund or Edward, Eliza or Elizabeth, Emeline, Esther or Ester, Ephraim, Hannah, Hester or Hety, Jemima, Joseph, Lewis, Lorinda, Lucinda, Manly, Mariah or Maria, Mary or Polly, Mercy, Minerva, Sarah, Rachel or Rachael, Thomas, Warner LATHROP (or Lothrop): Anna, Deborah, Elizabeth or Eliza, John, Polly, Walter. Some of the other surnames that might be connected with any of the Baldwins or Lathrops might be Alexander, Brooks, Brown, Buck, Chamberlain, Coleman, Fitzgerald, Lewis, McDowald, Taylor, or Townley. Apparently my Baldwins had itchy feet as they tended to move frequently and, thus, didn't make it into many written materials. I've had to tap into the names of their spouses to extract anything interesting. Again, thank you so very much for your help. Let me know if I can return the favor.
